Post your rare frag pic for the MARS swap April 16

Hi MARS members:

There have been a lot of questions about what constitutes a rare coral for the purposes of the Mars swap.

If you have any question as to whether your coral will be considered rare, please post a pic on this thread. Jim (bookfish) from BAR and I will be working together on the day of the swap and prior to determine whether or not corals will receive the rare label.

Every coral will be handled on a case by case basis. Coral must be a desirable species and color morph to qualify. Although many "LE" corals will qualify, that label alone is not he end of the determination.

Please keep your posts brief and try to restrict them to pics only. Sometime prior to the swap, Jim and I will consult and post our decisions.

Thank you and I hope many of you can attend.

Rob

thank you David

thank you David

We'll confer and respond shortly.
BTW, what color is the merletti center?
Thx-Jim

Sorry, no

Sorry, no

I'm sorry but those merletti (orange w/ bright blue centers) have actually been hobbyist distributed now to the point that that they are no longer rare. They ARE however, very beautiful and a good color morph like that should be shared so I hope you'll still bring them.
See you there.-Jim

neon green ring favia. not too big a frag to be brought if considered rare. if it's not considered rare, it's staying at home. lol. the colony is too nice to frag for nothing special.

i own a. lords, a. hillae, blue angel zoos, 'superman' montipora, echinophyllia, oxypora, yuma rics, and other rarities.

i'm not trendy, though. i prefer the term 'connoisseur of rarities.'

What about these?? You saving these for yourself??

man, i've got to fix my sig...especially since my red polyped- blue base danae died.

lol. well i know that lords and the hillae are rare...but i'm not bringing any lord frags. the hillae, on the other hand, will be making an appearance. i don't think fragging echinophyllia's and oxypora's is the best of ideas(they sometimes respond very strongly to fragging[read: die]) but i do have a small frag of a steel blue colored oxypora i will be bringing. none of my sps is large enough to frag as of yet(since i just really got into sps...after buying lords, sps seemed like a good route to go when lords are in decline!) otherwise i would be bringing some pieces.

all pics are located at my frags.org page (red house!) or in my gallery here.

Yoshi:

It seems you are holding out.

That piece will do. About how big of frag we're you anticipating?

Oh and if you want to bring a lord or superman frag, those are good also.;)

Thanks, Rob

lol. seriously!! doing the frags that i'm planning right now is gonna be a set back to my tanks! i've got three nanos in my apt(plus one more that is my roommates) but they're all stocked oh-so-carefully. don't want to upset the balance too much, ya know? :D

O.K., here I go.
Frags pre-cut, mounted & ready to go (a few are spoken for already, but 1-2 of each species will be on the table):

Echinophyllia:

SPE's (somthinorothercolor people eaters):

I'm also bringing misc. zoos, tubipora, xenia, a leather or two...

EDIT: not the whole rock of the people eaters, mind you but several polyps each frag.

be careful fragging your echino...sometimes with such a small frag they will just self-destruct. your 'mother' colony and the frag might not make it. if you're dead set on fragging it though...frag now so that it has a lot of time to recover. hopefully it responds well, as that's a pretty little piece!

Dude I hack the Hell out of mine all the time. So far no problems. How are you fragging them? I have the same pink from the last swap and I already fragged it and traded a piece. Matter of fact I just cut about 10 frags from 2 different colonies last night and the frags and colonies puffed right back up after about 10 minutes back in the tank and I have 2 frags of it here at work doing just great..knock on wood..............knock knock

well sooorrrrrryyy frag master rob! :D

i frag them the same way you do....well, maybe not. i don't have a dremel. lol. i usually use a hammer and a chisel then cut the flesh with a razor(or if the skeleton is thin enough i just cut through with an exacto). i've had luck too but have read/heard about sooo many people having huge difficulties fragging echinos/oxys.

I wish I was the Frag master!!!! Yep I use the dremel but I cut them from underneath not on the flesh. Then I run a Razor blade right over the cut to finish it off.

LMk when you ready for a frag!

BTW those zoo's in your avatar are sweet!!!!
