My Hamilton units have been reliable. The only other brand I've tried was JBJ, and those fixtures didn't work well for me. I've seen the Odyssea fixtures, and wasn't very impressed.
I second that comment on the coralife fixtures. They are great! I hope to upgrade to a MH eventually. I only have PC's now, but I am supporting shrooms, zoas, a flowerpot, toadstool, kenya tree, and colts. I am very pleased with coralife!
I have had a good experience with www.Hellolights.com (RC sponsor). Their retrofit was the cheapest of anywhere I could find if you don't mind doing a little wiring....
My coralife aqualight fixtures are great. The only problem I have had in two + years is salt got into one of the connectors and corroded it. I cut in a new connector and works like new.
how much is everyone spending for their coral life 96w 36" fixtures? how much do you normally spend on the bulbs? do you stick w/ coralife bulbs or....?
i just bought a 2x 55w and 2x 96w balasts on clearance from hello lights.....
most the experts will say you have to change your bulbs every 6 months. i havent changed mine yet. i have had them going for a year now. i dont have any major algae problems. i can tell the lights are not quite as bright as they were new, but the corals are still growing. my LFS has their own brand of straight pin bulbs for $25 each.
