Pre-thaw food.

Hi, All.

I have very small fish and when I feed I end up using about 1/4 a cube of frozen mysis. Cutting them while they are frozen to get the right amount is annoying and some of the little bits fly everywhere.

Anyone pre-thaw their food? I'm thinking of pre-thawing an entire cube and using it over the course of 3 days. Would this be done in talk water or RO/DI water?

Also if I did it this way i would also fortify the batch with Selcon.

Let me know!

I thaw a few cubes in a cup of rodi or tank water (shouldn't matter) with the cubes inside a fish net. Once it is thawed I sift and move the net in and out of the water to loosen it up. Then I transfer the cleaned food via the net to a new cup of water for use over the course of the next few feedings. You can keep the thawed food in the cup of water in the fridge between feedings. I feed with a turkey baster when I want to use it. This process takes minimal effort and keeps a lot of unnecessary gunk out of my water.

Thanks for the tip! Going to do this two cubes at a time!
