PRIMARY LED lit Custom glass tank

yes, all my zoas are open and alive, a few i killed w/ poor fragging technique though. I lost a green clown goby this weekend that I added, probably had nitrite/ammonia in the water, didn't test because I was lazy, whoops. I'll wait a month or two till I add a new one.

Awesome thread. I am curious about the your power for your leds. I am building an led retro-fit into my AP24 hood. I'm using the Seoul Semiconductor leds in it. I'm not sure of how to calculste the needed power for the leds. I am going to run 2 white and 1 blue in each lens(same 3 led style as you have) and I am going to run seperate low power(1 watt) moonlights. Each led in each lens will be wired in series to the corresponding in the next lens, so I'll have 3 swithces for power and timing etc. I just keep getting confusing info on the calculation for the poer supply, any help is very much appreciated. Oh I want to make a closed loop for my 3 gal pico cause of this thread.

you need a current driver to run the LEDs, otherwise they will suffer thermal runaway and die quickly. I can not tell you what you need w/o knowing what current driver you select. Each independently operatable strand will require it's own current driver w/ seperate powersupply, otherwise you will not be able to use a plug in timer or change colors.

cool I'll have to look up all the info on them and I'm just now buying them so it may be a bit. I was also wondering how you mounted the leds into the lense? Do they just sit in or did you use an adhesive or epoxy or ? I plan to use 10 triple lenses that should give me great coverage for the area. and I have a couple of ideas for running a splash shield to keep any spray of. I am just about done uilding the closed loop for it and that will have 2 outlets at the top pointing downward (this is a design I found here on RC). I'll look up the specs on the leds and get back toyou, although I won't be able to until later this weekend.

Another question ok 2 or so. Where did you get your lenses at,? All I have found are just clear and only for cover they don't do any focussing. Also the powerpucks you use, where did you get them and what are the name etc. that I could look em up under. Thanks For the help, I'm learnin a ton.

I got everything at futureelectronics.com. I can't remember the models I ordered of everything. I bought 700mA LED current drivers and 3 way FRAEN optical 45degree angle lenses for my luxeon 3 stars. I would have to do research again to figure out what will work for the newer k2s. I still am ambivalent as to the value of this project versus a 150W MH. I am getting negligible zoathind growth. I have not been paying attention to this tank at all.

I have decided to post this setup for sale. I will start by asking for $500 for the setup complete. If pushed, I will sell the LED assembly in the existing hood for $400. That is obviously the most expensive portion, and where a tremendous amount of research and work went!

I will post this in the for sale section, but will mention here for any interested subscribers. If interested, make an offer via private message and I will consider it. Shipping costs are aproximately $50 anywhere in the 48 states for the complete unit, and $25 hood only via ups ground.

Reasons for selling: I can not place this in my office anymore because of new company policy and I do not want to take care of a nano tank at home on top of my 240G reef tank. It get's ignored basically, the setup deserves a better home!

I too am interested in the denitrator< iwant to build a small unit like that to go with my nano that I'm doin my led setup for, how do you have that plumbed in(due to small size) and do you have a pump on it?

Read more about sulfur denitrators in the aforementioned link. There is too much to discuss here. Mine is simply a 16oz bottle full of sulfur and calcium carbonate, 2 nozzles and airline tubing tee'd off a maxijet1200. Simple. As for why/how they work, see the link or do some searching. I have one on my full reef tank and it is like magic.

I'm still looking to sell this nano or light if anyone is interested in a completed LED hood to play with.

I have been following that thread, I just noticed that from the pic, there is no place to off-gas the unit like the other person promotes. Do you off-gas yours, or is that not necessary?

I have converted this to a frag grow out tank in the basement with my 240G SPS reef because I can not take the tank to my office. I just set it up downstairs yesterday, it was packed with corraline, pods and macro algae. Only one pair of zoas survived because I have totally neglected the tank. It now houses several SPS frags and I will observe their growth pattern under the LEDs now that I have the tank connected to an ultra stable SPS reeftank.

I'll post a photo in the coming weeks showing the simple setup, works great for a small frag tank or show tank if connected to a full system.
