In my spare time over the past few months I have been working on writing a book/catalogue. While my original has photographs and is more pleasing this is the best I can do to post it on line. I hope this might answer some questions and perhaps raise a few more. Feel free to ask away.

Tunze Aquarientechnik

Located in the Bavarian Alps this 40 year old company continues to innovate and produce a number of specialty products for aquarists. Largely hand made in limited numbers and overseen by the Tunze family to this very day the Tunze line is one of the best product lines on the market.

Tunze is famous for the Turbelle line of powerheads which offer high energy efficiency, high flow and sophisticated flow solutions for the advanced reef keeper. The high energy efficiency means they produce almost no heat. The large diameter output eliminates shearing forces which kill plankton and harm sensitive coral tissues. The pumps are easily rebuilt with readily available spare parts. The pumps are divided into four series.

The Turbelle Classic line includes the 2002 and 4002, these pumps are offered for tropical climates. They are air cooled and add no heat to the aquarium. Unlike other air cooled powerheads they are electrically waterproofed and though they should be unplugged and serviced immediately if they fall in the aquarium they pose no immediate safety hazard. The other unique feature is the use of expensive asynchronous motor technology. While most pumps run at 3600rpm in response to the line frequency of 60Hz a Turbelle Classic can run at a variable rotational frequency and thus it offers some unique flow capabilities through the use of a Tunze Powertimer or Interval Powertimer.

The Turbelle Powerheads are submersible powerheads with exceptional energy efficiency. A Turbelle produces as much as three times the water movement with the same amount of electricity compared to other brands. The Turbelle 3000 moves 792gph with only 24W of power. The result is a nominal increase in temperature and a reduction in the number of powerheads required to circulate an aquarium. The Turbelle Powerheads are not suitable for use on any wavemaking system. They may be connected to a standard grounded timer and switched on and off as many as 4 times a day with at least 15minutes between switching intervals.

The Turbelle Electronic is the pinnacle of aquarium flow technology. These low voltage submersible powerheads can be pulsed and the flow rate adjusted as desired. As many as eight pumps can be networked on the Multicontroller to produce tide and surge simulations. The largest model produces between 185 and 1055gph. Also unique to this pump is the service alarm. If the pump is obstructed or not functioning properly an audible alarm is released. The Multicontroller and Single controller feature night mode and feed timer, a feature which stops the pumps for 5minutes at the push of a button. These pumps can be purchased in flow kits for large aquariums.

The Turbelle Stream is a unique powerhead for large aquariums or high flow reef applications. It uses a propeller to push the water out through a two inch outlet. The wide flow pattern is the closest yet to a natural ocean current. Two models are available the 6080 is a traditional pump running at 60Hz producing as much as 2,113gph. The 6120 is a low voltage electronic pump producing as much as 3,170gph, this model can be combined with other controllable Tunze pumps on the Multicontroller, Single controller or interval powertimer.

Tunze Skimmers are unique in several ways. They are the only plankton safe skimmer on the market. They are purposefully engineered and include a pump, no guessing as to which pump is the best to operate the skimmer. They are simple to use, featuring true ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œplug and skimââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ operation. The skimmers are amongst the most compact and silent in the world. Four types of skimmer in various sizes are offered. Centrifugal skimmers are for use in sump. The Comline skimmers are for in tank use and may be accessorized with other Comline components to offer thorough water processing. The System skimmers are for use with Tunze System components either in tank or in a Cabinet Kit. The Comline skimmer 3131/2 is for use in a sump without a water level controller and is built to withstand water level fluctuations.

Tunze offers a full line of modular water treatment products. The Comline components are for use in the aquarium and are a great alternative to sumps and reef ready aquaria. The components include Mechanical Filter systems, Biological/Denitrifying filter systems, Protein Skimmer, Osmoregulator and Calcium Reactor. The System components mount in tank or in sump on fiberglass rails. Complete Cabinet Kits are offered with all the Tunze System Components in a sump and ready for use. These components when used together insure thorough water processing, producing water free of particulate, nitrogenous waste and dissolved proteins and cellulose. They maintain the correct ionic balance through the use of Calcium Reactors and Osmoregulators.

Tunze Bioelectronics are amongst the most accurate and reliable controlling devices on the market. They include pH Controllers, mV controllers, Temperature controllers and Conductivity monitoring instruments. Tunze also offers a high quality line of test kits. These test kits are manufactured for laboratory use and meet stringent ISO criteria. They are an excellent value in terms of cost per test.

Tunze Power Magnets offer a high performance algae cleaning magnet. The pads are replaceable and the magnets are thoroughly encapsulated in resin ensuring they will not corrode.

The Tunze Osmoregulators are a unique innovation. For a very reasonable price the topping off of aquarium water can be completely automated. The system uses an optical sensor to detect the water level and activate a 9V pump in a reservoir as necessary. It features a safety float switch with alarm and a safety circuit which will turn off the pump if a fill is not registered within ten minutes. The Osmoregulator is suitable for use in Comline kits or in Cabinet filter plants. For System kits or in tank use special models are available. The Osmoregulator can be combined with the Calcium Dispenser to dose Kalkwasser in reef aquaria.

Tunze offers a number of useful accessories and filter medias. Useful and convenient are the cleaning gloves, cleaning brush sets, epoxy stick, coral glue and silicon adhesive. Extra safety can be added to any set up with a Ground Fault Alarm and a Water Level Alarm. Tunze regulators and CO2 equipment are amongst the best available and offer an exceptional value. The Tunze Solenoid is low voltage and resistant to exposure to water. While the regulator features a full set of gauges and precision needle valve in a handsome chrome plated brass assembly.

Roger, I got some answers off of this thread that I wasn't sure about after visiting the Tunze-USA web site. It might be worth-while to put one of those star-thingies on it to keep it at the top of the thread list, IMO.

I tried down-loading the .pdf catalog off of the Tunze-USA site, and was unable. The link: http://www.tunze.com/usa/index.html?lang=en-gb takes me to a page of test in german: http://www.tunze.com/usa/index.html?lang=en-gb Can this be fixed? Do you have a direct link to an english-language .pdf catalog?

I will notify Tunze of this problem, the site has been recently redone and a few links do not work correctly. Hopefully it can be repaired by tomorrow.
