PSA: How clean is YOUR sump?

Oh. I might be able to do that.

Why? Because I don't have an ATO set up and since I have so much water volume, adding 20 gallons or so of fresh water to the system doesn't really matter much. When I fill the water change chamber, I usually let it run longer and top off 10-20 gallons at a time. Evaporation room, basically. With about 30 square feet of surface area, I evaporate off about 20 gallons a week, maybe 25.

Ahh, that makes more sense, but it seems like you might have issues with overflow from back siphoning during a power outage if your sump is full at that time. I'm sure you've got it figured out though. :)

10 gallons into 500 is the same as 1 gallon into 50 or 1/2 gallon into 25. In other words, nothing really.

Oh ok I thought you had like a 100 gallon plus sump so I was thinking 50 to 75 gallon difference so ya 10 gallons into a 500 gallon system wont change anything

Mine is "gunk" free. I run a filter sock and check the sump weekly. Most all of my detritus accumilates in one spot in the display and that spot has turned into a featherduster growing patch!

I finally figured out how to set up my ATO given my configuration. I want to do that anyway, but in the mean time I'm going to just watch my sump and see how long it takes to get dirty again. If it's only once a month I'll just shut it down and take it out into the road and hose it out. It wasn't that hard to do. If I don't let it get too bad I can probably easily do it in place without removing it. It's about time to clean my water change chamber again.
