Pufferpunk Tattoo!

Pufferpunk

New member
For about 10 years now, I have been known world-wide as "Pufferpunk" on the web. I run the #1 website for resourse on pufferfish info available. Even got stopped at the Shedd by a fellow that asked me if I was Pufferpunk & brought his whole family over to meet the "puffer lady"! I am looking for ideas on a Pufferpunk tattoo, I've been wanting for a few years. It will go on my left tricep & be about 8" from top to bottom. A friend just came up w/the brilliant idea of giving it a Mohawk & ring thru it's nose! I don't know if it should have lots of crazy colors or what. There could even be 2 puffers. I want water too. I do want it to either say Pufferpunk across the top of my shoulder or Puffer on top & Punk below the tat. I'm leaning towards the whole name of Pufferpunk, since that's my name. Any artists out there? I'm ready!

omg you're brave.

You must not have ever met Pufferpunk right?

Puffer sounds like a very cool ideal keep us posted on what you deciede

Not in real life, but we've talked. I think it's a very cool idea, but I would be scared to get any tattoo!!! ouch!

About 1/4 of my body is tattoed (full sleeve, calf ,chest, entire lower back) & I have about 20 piercings, 2 of witch are stretched. Everyone has a different tollerence for pain. With about 4 ibuprofin, I can sit for hours. After about 1/2 hour, the adrenalin kicks in & it actually feel enjoyable (for the most part, depends on where it is).

I have a concept in mind. I don't know too much about puffer fish, Jeni, but here goes.

I'm imagining a puffer fish wearing a bikini top that has a bunch of tatoos approximating ones you have with a tatoo that says PufferPunk" on it's left pectoral fin. I agree with the previously stated mohawk idea but somehow incorporating that idea into the dorsal fin.

Whatcha think?

I was actually thinking of a spiked collar (symbolic, since they have spikes) & maybe a tattooed fin. No clothes though.

Tattoo Advice

Tattoo Advice

I have a number of tattoos and take the art very seriously. Here is my advice with respect to artists:

For black and white realism, Tom Renshaw is the best. Here is his site: http://www.tomrenshaw.com/index2.htm

For color realism, Deano Cook is the best. Here is his site: http://www.psychotats.com/images/cook/cook_frames.html

I like a little more artistic flair in my tattoos. My artist is Kimberly Reed. HEre stuff can be found here: http://www.psychotats.com/images/cook/cook_frames.html

Finally, if you want to stay local, Kim Saigh is the best in Chicago. Her stuff can be found here: http://www.cherrybombtattoochicago.com/

Do not go cheap, fast, or small with your tattoo. It will last for every so hire the best artist you can find. Also, larger tattoos look more natural on the body. 2" tattoos look like crap real quick.

Expect to pay between 100 and 300 dollars an hour for your tattoo and, depending on the size and detail, between 2 and 10 hours in the chair.

Any of those artists will be able to draw you a tattoo based on your suggestions and a rough sketch or picture. Remember that most people wish their first tattoo was larger than it is as bigger tattoos look more natural on the body and show greater detail.

If you have any questions, please pm me as this is a subject, unlike reefing, where I am an expert.

best of luck! can't wait to see pics!

didn't realize that you had experience and were just looking for sketch advice ... my bad ... still would like to see tatto pics though!

i love them! i am finishing up my side piece next month (a large blue marlin cresting over a small rowboat with a cuban fisherman in it). i will send you a pic when it is done.

I also highly recommend Kim Saigh. Not only very tanlented, she really cares about what she puts on you and how it will look. She is also very honest.

Wow, Kim Saigh's stuff is really good! Always wanted to be tattoed by a gal too. Still love the way Ben Wa works w/color & since I've got an in w/a friend of his, I'll probably go w/him for this one. There's always next time though!

ben wa is pretty amazing ... i was in kim saigh's studio a few weeks ago and her online portfolio is nothing compared to the stuff she is doing now ... you should check her out for you next one.

i have been tattoed by two different guys before kim reed and will never go back.
