pumping xenia question

My Xenia is starting to grow out of control. What can I do to get rid of some of it? It's growing on the rocks and whenever I touch the xenia, it shrinks and very slimy. What can I do to get rid of some of it? Cutting it off the rock would probably be out of the question since it's growing all over my live rock. I woul almos have to rearrange my tank just to get the spots I don't want it growing on.

You didn't read the warning label for xenia did you?

I normally peel mine off from the base and trade them in for credit at the lfs.

LOL!(GROWS LIKE A WEED) I did read the warning label but the wife wanted it. Although I must admit, it even surpassed my expectations for a fast growing coral.

Can you really peel it off the base? What do you use to peel it?

just grab it as close to the base as you can and pull it off do not pull straight up pull it from the side so that it peels off. You can post a thread and offer it for trade or sale to other reefers in the area or just throw it in the trash I would trade some neon green ricordea for some

Definately offer a trade to some loca reefer. I couldn't find anyone in my area so I dropped it off @ a LFS. Got $100 store credit @ 5/ stalk.

Not as bad as that pic, although it looks nice, but it is overshadowing a lot of my zoa's, ricordea's and shrooms. Thanks for the great tips, I really appreciate it.

You could also do like I have done when it gets out of hand and patience is running thin. Take a pair of scissors and just start chopping. Suck out the floating pieces with a turkey baster. Often the remaining stump will receed, but if it grows back you just have to get the scissors out again.

Xenia can be great for nutrient export but if it starts growing out of control it can also be an indicator of higher nutrients. Mine has become a great gauge for reading my tank parameters. It will grow at a slow pace normally, but when mine explodes I know that my chaeto needs trimming and my phosban reactor needs a change.
