Pure Dolomite in the Calcium Reactor

O.k. so in the pursuit of further autonomy and chemical stability in my system I am considering using pure dolomite in my calcium reactor in the manner referenced in this issue of reefkeeping:

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/sh/feature/index.php

"It is also worth noting that you may have difficulty achieving natural calcium and alkalinity levels if your salinity is less than natural seawater (35ppt) (Holmes-Farley 1998) or if you have a deficiency in magnesium (Bingman 1999, Holmes-Farley 2001). A solution to magnesium depletion, used by some aquarists, is to include a few teaspoons of pure dolomite in the calcium reactor where it can dissolve, adding magnesium to the tank (Bingman 1997)."

Two Questions:
Have you tried this method and with what result?

Where does one get PURE DOLOMITE? apparently pelletized lime is dolomite but is it pure?

Hmmm

Hmmm

I don't know if I can disagree, but what I would like to do is create as stable an evironment as possible. My thinking is that just as the calcium is dosed at low levels over long periods. Why not the Magnesium too....
You could be right on:cool:

I've always used a Zeovit product called Zeomag in my calcium reactor. It's a little pricey for the amount you get, but it lasts a long time. My Mg is pretty constant at 1350.

How is your new elegance doing?

Luis

It's awsome, thanks for asking.
We will have to moniter it for a bit before I get too excited.. but if it stays as-is I will be very pleased.
It was good to meet you the other day. I checked out some of your gallery earlier..... you are a very sick man... he he.
with your maticulous husbandry I definately apreciate the 411.

Thanks,
J

p.s. It's all pricey

I am no longer using the full blown Zeovit method, but do continue to use both the amino acids and Coral Vitalizer very sparingly.
