Purified water for aquarium use

I will be launching an aquarium maintenance business in the next few weeks. I will be working on freshwater, marine, and reef aquariums. My work will include changing water and topping off.

I know that I should not use tap water for water changes or top off. Tap water has nitrate, phosphate, copper, and possibly other things in it that make it unsuitable for aquarium use. Purified water is necessary.

I could buy purified water from a number of places including a grocery store, a water store, or my local fish store. Or I could buy a RO/DI filter system and produce purified water at home. I don't know how large my customers' tanks will be. The largest tank could be 500 gallons.

Should I buy purified water on a regular basis or should I invest in my own RO/DI filter? Is there another way to go?

hands down, buy your own ro/di filter. whether its a 10gal nano, or a 1000 gallon reef, everyone can benefit from owning their own ro/di filter.

If your going to be doing this for a business, a large capacity RO/DI system would be wise investment. Both from the $$$ standpoint over the long run, and having personal control over the quality of the water you are using ;)

X2. If you buy "rodi" water from a LFS and they screw up and you don't catch it, when you re-sell it, your now putting your name on it.
