purple monster light requirement

does the PM need to be high light or low? I have seen good deep purple ones in lower light and nice and deep reddish purple.

I have seen some up high but the not as purple.

Here is mine, is this the right color to be trying for

when I got my PM frag it was a deep purple. It has been sitting on my frag rack about midway up the tank under 250w 20k de halide, it has sence lightened slightly and started to get hints of green in it. I was told this could be from to much light, so when I finnally go to move it off the rack i plan to find a shadyer spot for it

OK Thanks, the picture is a bit too purple due to camera setting and heavy actinics, but it shows the shade of purple anyway.

i always say if you like the color of it then leave it. if you dont then start to move it around. i found that with mine lower in the tank made it darker. i also keep mine under t5s.

6" from an ATI T5 fixture
IMO nutrient role plays more of a role than lighting. 2 years ago I had an 8" colony under a 400w halide and the color was very dark purple. I had a large bio-load in that tank.

Slovan,
yours looks very purple.... is it cuz of the halides? I have an ati T5 system like jackson does.... Am i going to be able to achieve deep purple color like yours?

I could never get mine the deep purple color under T5s, this is a big reason I went back to MH. Its probably possible for deep purple under T5's, I just couldnt do it.

I have pretty much kept mine in the same place for the 2 years, mid way about 22" from the bulb (400w 20k Ushio) and medium flow. If I move it around I start to get some green in the tissue (too low). If I move it higher I get neon in the polyps (too high).

Such a beautifull coral.. Huge pieces guys!, my frag is tiny!. I look forward to having a nice colonie some day.

This one is near the top of my tank but not directly under my 400W Radium.

I have another near the top but more towards the light and it is lighter.
