purple scorpion fish

being sold at my LFS for $130. i'm not into scorpion fish, but this thing is beautiful. am i wrong in thinking that it might be the best deal ever? i saw it online for like $1000.

has anyone ever seen a purple scorpion fish before? how rare are they really? and how dangerous are they?

just wondering.

what kind of scorp is it? if it's a Rhinopias sp., and the fish is in good condition, it's a crazy cheap price. just out of curiosity, where are you located?

as for having seen one, we are currently keeping two of them:

do either of those fish seem similar?

i'm in georgia. i have no experience with scorpionfish. and i don't think i could get it cuz my other fish would steal all the food when feeding him. it just got me curious.

it's just listed as a purple scorpionfish. but looking on line for info (there isn't much) i see that it might be a pink frilly scorpion fish. cuz it's actually light purple. i don't see any for sale online, so i'm not quite sure if the $130 is a good price.

that's my opinion from looking at the pic on this site...

from looking at the pics above, i'm gonna have to go with the first picture. it looks leafy-er, but not quite as leafy as the second pic.

it's eye is like mirrorlike too! does that help?

many scorp species have those "mirror-like" eyes, so that's not really a good handle for ID.

if the dermal appendages are more leafy, and the dorsal fin membrane is not "incised" between the rays, the fish in question is most likely R. eschmeyeri.

well, maybe i'm wrong. on second thought, it pretty much looks like picture 1 then.

so is that PURPLE one rare?

do u want it? i am not sure if i should if i should just put the LFS name up on here. u can pm me if u want the number to the store.

I haven't been to Nemo Fish, but I've been wanting to so bad! Kinda far from me though. Same with Blue Planet. Heard nothing but good things about both stores

so is this a good deal? are purple ones rare? like i said, i'm not getting it. just really curious.

if the fish is in good shape, it's a good deal. one of the problems with Rhinos is their propensity to rub their noses against the shipping bags, so you often see them with white abrasions on their lower lips, which usually heal up, but should be watched for signs secondary bacterial infection.

as for color, Rhinos can (and do) change color, depending on their environment. the fish in the first picture is in a very "purple" tank, and was originally this color:

awesome lavendar rhinopias frondosa complete w chin rub--
A gorgeous fish-- i hope your reefclub mates post better picts- thats one stunning fish.
Again i'm disappointed at how inexpensive these fish are getting-

so is it correct that it's a purple scorpion fish? if u look online, purple ones look darker. this guy is a beauty. but he's more lavendar.
