QT cleaning question

Okay, I know this is a really silly question but I could not find any information when I searched for like an hour. I am trying to do everything right this time so I researched a ton before I set up my new tank. This question has to do with my QT. My first water change and vacuum went very well, however, I did another one tonight in the QT and it was not as successful. It appeared that I got most of the left over food and the bottom looked pretty clear to me, but I could not get it all so I am looking for tips to get close to everything out from the bottom (bare bottom)?

When I went and put in the new water there was debris floating all over the tank so I did not get even close to enough of it to make me happy with the job. Any tips with vacuuming would be amazing? I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Maybe to large of a siphon? It was having trouble getting the large stuff up the pipe, it fell back down after getting half way up. This will only get worse I have a feeling when I have to do the DT with sand and everything. Thanks!

you can syphon into a filter sock, this will collect the leftovers. Then put the water back into the tank or add new water your choice.
