QT question

Hi,
I've been following the various threads on your excellent QT procedures. I bought a laboutie from Diver's Den that is arriving today. It's origin was Ca. All the references I see on QT seem to refer to the facility in Wisc. Would this laboutei have seen your 2 week QT procedures?

Thanks,
Phil

Philwd,

Thank you for your question. We apologize for any confusion. All Diver’s Den fish are shipped from our Aquacultured Coral and Marine Life facility in Rhinelander, Wisconsin including your Cirrhilabrus laboutei. The second part of your order that contained the Royal Gramma Basslet is the package that shipped from California.

I had a feeling you were going to ask this question Phil. :P

Was about to ask it myself, but when I saw you in this section I thought I would wait.

Ok. I apologize. Confusion is on my part. I must have gotten the shipping notifications backwards. Thanks for the clarification.

Wanted to share an update. I know it is past the 2 week guarantee but I hope you can offer some suggestions.

The laboutei was fine in the display the past 2 weeks. Sunday afternoon when the lights came on I noticed red streaks in his tail, ventral, dorsal and tail fin erosion and he wasn't using his tail hardly at all. I had noticed he seemed to drag his tail more than the other wrasses earlier but then would swim fine. So I watched him. Saw no stringy feces that would indicate internal parasites. Ate very well. This internal hemorraging and fin erosion happened almost overnight. Sat fine Sun had the problem.

I caught him and put him in my cycled QT. Red streaks often indicate bacterial infection. All I had on hand Sun was Melafix so I used it for a day. Yesterday went to my LFS and they had a marine penicillin based antibiotic. I put a pill in last night. Tonight I plan on grinding a pill up and mixing with small amount of vegetable oil to make a paste and mix with small pellets(got that from a marine disease manual) to get a dose into his system. BTW I know this may compromise the beneficial bacteria and I am prepared to do daily water changes to keep up the water quality.

I'm hoping your marine experts can tell me if this is an appropriate course to take. Or if this might not be bacterial but something else. When I checked him this morning I now see red splotches at his pec fins so it appears he is getting worse.

Thanks,
Phil
