Question on bi valve

so im walkin on the beach the other day...and i see thousands of these small white-shelled bi-valves/clams... i don't know what they are... at the surf line... when the water recedes it pulls some of the sand away exposing them... and they dig furiously back down into the sand.. the smallest is 1/8" long... the biggest is about 3/4" long...

any idea what they are.... and would it be a mistake to introduce them into a reef tank

Without more of a description, I'm not sure anyone here will come up with a postive ID to the exact clams you saw, but I'll hazard a guess on your question of whether it would be a mistake to put some in your reef tank.

IMO, it would not be a good idea. Chances are that these filter feeding clams are specifically adapted to receive the food they need from that tidal action that you describe. The chances of you reproducing the same conditions with the same food in your reef tank are slim.
