Question on Elegance Coral

I'm thinking of adding a Elegance Coral to my tank, and the guy at the LFS was telling me that Elegance Corals absorb nitrates and phosphates in the tank, is this true? I had never heard this before so now i'm curious if its true or not. I plan to get one whether its true or not, so now i'm just settling my own curiosity. :)

Do your self a favor and do a search here on RC for information on Elegance Corals. It will die in a month or so. Noone knows why but Elegance Corals captured over the last couple of years have a dismal survival rate.

Even if you find an elegance that shipped well and looks really good. It's still a total gamble that it will be around even 6 weeks later. Buying wild caught, your $100 would probably be better spent on lottery tickets.....

About the only way I would buy an elegance is if you can find someone that has had it already for 18 months or so that is getting out of the hobby or wanting to get rid of it for other reasons. This scenerio is very rare......

I did alot of research on them and found some people having success with them when their water was less than perfect. My water has always had nitrates at 7-10 and phosphates .25-.5. I found a nice one really cheap and he has done very well. Ive only had him like 4 months so to early to tell but so far so good. He even survived having a chunk taken out of a tentacle the first month and didnt get infected and die.

Seems to be that deep water elegance corals seem to be doing better than shallow water after have a discussin with fellow reefers. More times than not you don't know whrere it was collected so like theu said it is a gamble. I know of one place that has great success with elegance corals and that is phishybusiness.com Serdar has some top notch stuff and his elegances always look good no matter how long he has had them (which usually is not long at all).
