Questions about PH Spike and Uploading Pics

I've been having a problem lately with my PH level. Currently at 8.7, don't know what is causing the spike. First thing came to mind was my calcium level, but repeated tests indicate a reading of 420. I am preparing to do a 25 gallon water change to see if that will help lower it.

Also, I've tried uploading pics of my tank but to no avail. Any advice with regards to the PH spike and uploading photos would be greatly appreciated.

What is the pH levels normally? Do you have a kalk reactor?
Is the pH probe calibrated?
Easiest way to lower the pH is to slowly add vinegar, but first check to see if the probe is calibrated, and use another pH test to validate the high pH reading.

For pictures, try using a pic hosting service, like photobucket.

After you upload your pics to your photobucket account, the URL for the pics will be listed below. Then you simply copy that URL ( will say something like img=) in your thread in RC.

Reefrookie2006, it never occurred to me to check my magnesium levels. I honestly don't think I've ever even heard of the correlation. I obviously don't have a test kit, so should I just assume the magnesium level is low and dose accordingly? Also, how does magnesium affect the PH?

Actually mg has nothing to do with ph being high if your ca reading of 420 is most likely your mg with in the correct range especially if you have that high of ph, otherwise your ca would read way low due to precipitation. You can try to add vinegar slowly to bring it down or more irrigation by adding more flows in the tank also helps.
