Quiet One 3000 went eternally quiet ...

After less than 5-min, my Quiet One 3000 is dead. I'm not too happy about that. I know it's not a high-end pump by any means, but I expected more than this for $50.

I used it once about a week ago to transfer 5 gallons of new salt water during a water change in my nano. Today, it was placed in the 20H sump for permanent duty and during my simulated power failure, it wouldn't re-start. If I take it out and shake it a little, it will start to run but once I put it back into the sump it just stops. I bought it about a month ago and now I've lost the receipt from Drs F&S. I hope they'll give me a replacement or credit toward something else. I recall reading some other posts about these things failing and I believe I'll go to something else. Can someone suggest a reliable in-sump pump that can move 600gph? I'm willing to spend more for a reliable pump (twice as much).

I've seen SO many posts of QO pumps not starting....dont see why people bother with them.

You can get a Mag which you can at least count on working. If you want a REALLY nice pump that is super quiet, absolutely reliable, Get an Eheim 1260. Dont be fooled by the rating. It flows more than you would think since it handles headloss much better than other submersibles

My 3000 gave me hell for the first week or so. It completely cut off while running and refused to start up. Luckily I was right next to the tank when that happened. I took it apart, messed around with it, and eventually got it back running. It's been fine ever since.... just hope it doesnt give out any time soon.

Did you take yours apart, reseat the impellor? It will probably eventually restart...

Take it apart and soak it in a water / vinegar solution. I also have a QO 3000 and found it to be VERY touchy about re-starting if there are ANY calcium deposits on the shaft or the impeller. I have to clean mine about once every 30 days or it won't re-start.

Thanks guys,
I also took mine apart and it will work if I shake it a little. I think I'm just going to get an Eheim or try to plumb in an external pump like an Iwaki or a GenX. My sump won't overflow so I don't worry about that, I just want water flowing from display tank to sump and back like it's supposed to. I used an AGA 20H and I'm not sure I can drill it. I may have to make some sort of intake manifold if I go with an external pump.

I've been running my Quiet one 3000 for over 2 years without a hitch. For those of you encountering issues, how long have you had it? I wonder if some of its components have been changed over the years.

noticed on mine how tight the input housing went on, just didnt' tighten back all the way and so far has been restarting without fail

i was about to buy a 1200( for my Zeo reactor) .. should i get an eheim instead?

its kind of like a deltec vs asm......
if you have the money go eheim. Or maybe oceanrunner.
tunze vs seio is same argument..

I have a QO 4000 for my return and a 1200 for my skimmer. The 4000 sometimes has issues restarting, but if you soak it in vingear & water for about 20 minutes and put it back together, it works fine. As for the 1200, I've never had any issues with it. I really like these pumps due to their affordability and their low energy consumption.

I installed the inlet cover that is used for attaching an inlet hose. For some reason, this cover didn't have an O-ring like the other cover and I can remove and install it with ease. With this cover on, the pump restarts. The instruction manual says the O-ring is very important and w/o it the pump can sustain damage. In my case it works w/o the o-ring and doesn't w/it. Now it out pumps the flow from my overflow. I need to an an inline valve and probably a float switch in the main tank.
