Rae's pics-of EVERYTHING!!!

I finally had a break yesterday and was able to attend to my neglected tank. I even changed the attinics which were long overdue
They were taken during feeding time so I could get some of the shy fish into the pics

Very pretty Scott!

Just did a 10g WC. Just ordered new bulbs. Spring cleaning, RC style! ;)

BTW, having a VERY hard time finding the bulbs to go to my 20" Currant Nova Retrofit t5 fixture. I found the 24", but can not find the 20's anywhere. Any suggestions? Ihave called EVERYWHERE!!!! I will try current tomorrow, they are closed on the weekends.

Anyone have any news on Skypapa? I really need to get ahold of him. Darn!

So SUPER crummy pics, but I had to post anyhow. I took there from under, behind, and around the back of the tank. I found some very interesting critters. Under the serpant star you can see hundreds of tiny, what look like, spiral shaped snails. I have never seen anything like it. Also, I found tons of tiny serpent stars. What do you all think.

the tiny serpant stars are okay for the tank--sign of a healthy tank. In the bottom picture that's either a sponge or some red macro.
The snails I believe are called limpets
That brittle star has really grown.

Hi everybody! Sorry I've been absent. Busy mom stuff. Also student stuff. As well as forgetting my password, which I needed because we changed out the hard drives on our house computers, and they didn't remember the password for me! The tank has suffered benign neglect for months now. I spent Sunday scraping coraline off the viewing sides, rearranging the coral and power heads, and changing light bulbs. My husband can't stand that I'm calling the old bulbs "old" and changing them when they still emit light. But boy can we see the difference in the coral colors. The house also glows from inside when I drive by at night!

The skimmer powerhead impeller impaled itself last week. it was shrouded in metal flakes. not sure what part rusted out, but it certainly doesn't work anymor. So, I'm looked online for replacement parts for an Accella - no luck. Looked for a new Accella - no luck. I have a new Rio, but I can't make the connections fit. i have an old MaxiJet, but no venturi fixture. So we've been skimmerless for a week. Low bioload so I'm not too worried.

I'm procrastinating on my homework this afternoon. I have new reading glasses and a lot of reading to do. I'm still not used to wearing glasses and find myself reading OVER the top of them! lot a good that does me!

+1 on the red sponge.

I believe I have the same snails. I thought they were vermetids. I read they were irritating to the corals so I've been using forceps to break them off when I can reach them.

Rae N., glad to have you back, dear!

Rae C., how fares the torch coral? Any improvement?

What's the word on your bulbs, Rae? Any luck? I have a Nova fixture but it is 48" and I guess that makes a difference. I get my bulbs from reef geek. They have always had everything that I wanted so I can't imagine they wouldn't have something to fit yours. BTW, if you are still using Current bulbs, time to switch to something better. I use mostly ATI and it makes a tremendous difference.

Just got the new bulbs in this week. For my Current 24" setup, I wtill can not find the other 20" bulbs. I will call currant directly. The fish sure do like the new bulbs....everyone has on their sunglasses!

Rae, just for kicks call reefgeek and see if they have ATI or Giessman or UVL bulbs that will fit instead of the Current bulbs. Can't tell you what a difference they made in my Current fixture, I was totally shocked when I changed mine out and they were brand new when I did. Be glad to give you bulb combos if you want.

Like anything of this size/visibility there have been issues but overall I think Canada/BC has been doing a great job. Just wish I could be there but you can buy a lot of stuff for a reef tank for the price of tickets for the Gold Medal Hockey Game or the Opening/Closing Ceremonies. :D

Hey Canadian reefers.....how are the games treating you? Looks beautiful there!

I'm not a fan of snow but my wife and I have been watching quite a bit of the games. I'm just glad that a couple of Canadians have finally won a gold medal one our home soil. Where Scott and I live we've been really lucky this year with snowfall amounts. I think in total we've gotten a whopping 4 inches...wooo hooo. I hate shovelling snow.....lol

Actually I think the coverage of the games has been awful. The network keeps shifting from one event to another judging by what they think is interesting. Some of us would like to see the whole event not just smatterings
On a talk show this morning it was mentioned that CTV also owns TSN and that it could be quite possible to show full events on one network and not the other. They don't appear to be following their own schedules either--for eg my wife and I like the figure skating and both Sat and Sunday night it was advertised for 8pm--very disappointing that it was not even on. Apparantely a defunk zamboni was thought to be more interesting to the masses :D

Let the snow come Harold--with all the saltwater I have been sloshing on the driveway i won't be shoveling:lolspin::bounce3:

I do have to agree with you on the choppy way the games are being presented to us here in Canada but I'm still enjoying it.
