Rainbow Montipora white between polyps

The concern here is that these would be eggs. But on top of the coral and not on the underside?

Ok so I did the old when in doubt take it out and moved it to the quarantine tank. Here is the out of water pic

My thoughts were if it was the coral why the pale orange polyps around the white. However if any experts could tell me if they think it’s due to lighting or some other normal coral behavior any help is appreciated.
