Randy! Magnesium in saltwater?

Hello Randy,

My Salifert test kit instructions for Magnesium say

"Natural sea water has a Magnesium concentration of approx. 1300-1500 ppm. They concentration varies with salinity"

With this being said......how much does it vary?

My specific gravity is 1.024-1.026. So am I fine being ar 1330 when test?

What is optimal Magnesium if I keep CA at 420-440 and Alk at 3.54- 4.00 meq/L?

( I use your 2 part recipe, not B-Ionic)

Thanks!!

That article goes into some detail on all the water parameters. 1330 sounds great for your tank. I'm not really up on all the water conditions in various parts of the ocean, but perhaps someone will chime in on the natural variation. The Red Sea, for example, is more saline than many parts of the ocean, and thus likely has more magnesium in it.
