Do the pellets sink? The tangs eat it off the sand bed? I will pick up some garlic drops and pellet food.

Pumps - should I also shut the CL off? It is much stronger than the sump pump flow-wise...

I've heard that the garlic extract in the grocery stores is the same as that sold in fish stores, anyone use the grocery store variety?

Yes, they will sink, especially if you put them in a dish of tank water for 30 seconds and stir. I really don't want pellets on the surface. Btw, they smell like garlic too. Good stuff. It comes in small and large pellet, but I only by small.

The first two have the Kole Tang with the Naso Tang in the background. The second picture gives you an idea how skinny the Naso is. We have decided to name the Naso "Kate Moss". We haven't named the Kole Tang yet.

So that's a Kole Tang - My LFS has it listed as a yellow eyed Tang!:(

I just like the name Kole better than Yellow Eye...

I stopped at a nearby LFS to pick up that food that Marc suggested. I started with the veggie formula. The Kole seemed to go after it pretty well. I saw Kate (the naso) eat only a couple of them, but still that is something. And she also seemed to be looking around the sand and picking at it as if looking for some more.

All of the other fish really went after it as well. I'm going to feed a bit of the other formula a little later.

I think it was last months TOTM, can't remember for sure but all he fed his tank was Formula 1 and 2. I think he used flakes but that shouldn't matter should it?

Randy...do you have any caulerpa? My tangs love that that stuff. I can't remember what all you have in your refugium, but if you do have some you can try rubberbanding that to a rock and she might eat that.

I can't remember what all you have in your refugium, but if you do have some you can try rubberbanding that to a rock and she might eat that. If not, you can get some from me. I have the red caulerpa and you can actually harvest that in your refugium if they do eat it. You just have to make sure you keep it harvested (pinched back) but feeding it in the tank will do that. Let me know if you want to try some. I'll drop some by. Marcye

Hi Marcye, I got rid of all of my caulerpa from the fuge, only using cheato now. I could grow some caulerpa in a small seperate container in there just for the tangs - that would probably work allright. If you are coming through Oviedo and can drop some by that would be great! Also, feel free to bring your Husband over any time you want to check out the tank.

Hey Andiruleu - thanks :)

Kate is still looking alert and active this morning. I fed a mix of sea veggies (nori), formula two pellets, and spirulina flake, all soaked for several minutes in a bit of kent zoa. Kate picked at it just a little bit if one piece came by and hit her in the lip. Other than that she just swam around looking hungry and confused  :(

I heard that Kate Moss is into heroin, maybe that is the fish's problem. It does explain the not eating and the confusion. :D

But really, hopefully she starts eating.

DOH - I thought I might have broken up a party when I pulled some of the fish out of the overflow a while back. I guess they may have moved on to worse habits  Maybe I should start dosing vodka! Could they be smoking the nori?

While I was home for lunch, I put a piece of nori on a rock with a couple of rubberbands. This was the most promising attempt so far. Kate actually was very interested and took some bites. Hopefully this will get her over the hump. I'm going to do this again later tonight.

I had to put the nori on a rock to get my PB to eat it for the short time I had it. I guess because it is more natural they like it better.

That's what I think as well. They don't seem to be scared of the clip, they just don't recognize it as food. But flat against a rock they finally make the connection.

I still want to get some garlic to drip onto the nori. It soaks things up really well and still stays relatively together even when saturated. Tonight they got a nice dose of kent zoa vitamins...

Anyone use regular garlic extract from the grocery?

I've been using Garlic Guard, but I am interested in any replies you get about grocery store variety, because I have thought of that as well.

I use Kents Garlic Extreme. I just rub a drop on the Nori. (Seaweed Selects) It's the one thing the Scopas tang really likes to eat.

I am just wondering about the grocery store stuff because it is so much closer than going to an LFS to get it. I'm not worried about the price so much. From what I've heard, a bottle of Kents Garlic Xtreme lasts a Loooong time and must be used very sparingly, one drop at a time.

So the garlic taste is what the fish like? I just thought it was used to help the fish immune system but not to make them like the food better.
