Rare Color Torch Coral

At the LFS there is a nice looking Torch coral in their Display tank. It's dark green with pink tips. I never seen a torch like this one before. Does anyone else own a torch in this color? I like to buy one. The owner said he hasn't seen one come in for sale in awhile. I know there are frogsspawn this color because I own one of those. Let me know what kind and color torch corals everyone has and where you purchased it. Pictures will help.

Thanks

i have one like what you describe.. i got it as a 2 headed and it quickly split to 7... but 4 died this summer as a result of me lowering my lights too quickly... hopefully itll split out again and make more soon because it was very beautiful when it was softball sized... ill see if i can find some pics...

I got mine at my LFS. this is kind of a bad picture. i couldn't figure out how to turn the flash off on my parents camera.

Hey cool coral but that looks like a Fropspawn to me. I have a similar one in my tank lighter in color. I could be wrong but the torch I saw in the LFS had long tentacles.

nope... its a hammer lol looks like Euphylia parancora.

I have seen torch coral with that color pattern before, though it doesnt seem to be as common as all green in the trade.

Just for fun.. some common names and some proper names~

E. cristata, E. glabrescens : Torch Coral (glabrescens is more common in the hobby I believe)

E. paraglabrescens : A variety of Torch found only in a small portion of Japanese waters- Im unaware of this coming to the US

E. ancora : Wall Hammer

E. parancora : Branching Hammer

E. divisa : Wall Frogspawn (skeleton virtually identical to ancora, but distinct tentacles)

E. paradivisa : Branching Frogspawn

E. yaeyamensis : Frogspawn/Octopus (similar to divisa, but easily distinguishable if you see them side-by-side)

There were several other 'species' described at one time or another, but I think these listed are the only ones that are considered to be valid right now.

I have had 2 different types of torch coral one like the above & one all pink the both dissolved after months of having them everyone I asked they just said they do that some time. & to keep the lower part because sometime they return its been about 6 months no luck. Any idea as to what happened.

Mine has green centers, with pale pink/purple tips. However, i can never seem to get a good pic of it. It has about 7 heads with a few that are splitting. I got it for a steal from a lfs. I'll try to see if i can get some pictures some time.

It's good to see others owning this torch coral. They have a brownish green torch with pink tips for sale at another LFS, it looks green under the attinics and brown under there MH. I was wondering if I brought it home if it would turn green over time. I run attinics with 14k MH.

Just for clarifying what a torch looks like, here is mine.

I have not seen one of those purple tipped torch corals in over 5 years and even then they were rare. The last one I saw was going for $100 and again that was more than 5 years ago. Sure would be nice to have someone fragging one.

Hormigaquatica, your description of E. Cristata is incorrect. It is called Fine Grape Frogspawn. It's skeleton has the big rounded septula similar to a bubble coral on the skeleton. It's tentacles are smaller than those with the regular frogspawn yayaemaensis.
