OK I admit I only spent 8 bucks on it and the tang police will have me arrested for adding another tang, but I picked up a hybrid Yellow Tang X Scopas Tang. Skinniest fish I had ever seen. It has been three weeks and he is gaining weight and holding his own against the clown tang and the purple tang. When he fattens up some more I'll post a pic or two. But for now just think of a yellow tang thrown in the mud with brilliant blue micro spots and blue lined fins. A fairly common hybrid, but not always seen. BTW those angels posted prior are something else!!! MM

This guy owns some incredible fish! Even has an Peppermint Angel!! Wow! He even says how expensive it was and that there is only 2-3 of these fish imported a year!! No wonder they are so rare :) :) The funny thing is that he says the Peppermints are better placed in pairs since they are very friendly. HAHA! Imagine putting $20K worth of fish in that tank!

Here an interesting piece of info I just got. Technically, the Marshall Is. "operc" is a different sp. than the Indian Ocean operc

Hi,
sorry for not being around for this excellent discussion.
Been to the Interzoo in Germany.
Where do you guys get these numbers for a Peppermint Angel?
10K? are people paying?
I think there are 2 or 3 pcs in LA right now.
This fish aint so hardy as far as I heard.

About the Debelius, there are at least 2 people who are collecting them in Mauritius, but both of them have very very small stations, and a long waiting list for both the Debelius and the Gem Tang, so business wise they prefer to send those to Japan and Hong Kong where they get more moeny for them.
Both these species and especially the Debelius are found in very small numbers .
This 5K price they wont is a joke.

Villi,

I know that the first batch of Peppermints in Japan (some years ago) went for 10k pc. As far as I know, they would retail for about 5-6k at the present moment. However, the collector has not been collecting them for some time, and may not collect them for much longer, so I imagine the prices could be bid up pretty high the next time around.

As far as their hardiness...apparently they do well in reef settings. All the one's dieing I have heard of have been in FO settings. This was some time ago.

Terra,
In Japan they were sold even for more, I heard of some big numbers, I dont know if it's for real, or that somebody, just thought of what he wanna win at the casino and threw a number in the air.

Anyway, you can get those much cheaper in LA, and believe me, this is not a fish that the importer wanna get stuck with.
Unlike the Debelius/Clarion/Hotumatua/interruptus, who are the most hardy Angels you can think of, with the boylei, it is not the case.

U guys mentioned a shop that is waiting for 5K for a debelius, well, it is well over priced, but they can wait, as this fish is hardy.

I came back from hong kong dec 8th
if i can remember right

he was only about 1.5" when i got him and now he is pushing 3"
lets see yours now villi !!!

the gemtang shipment was coming in 3 days after i had to leave or i wouldve tried to bring some back

thanks bryan

I met some HK importers in the Interzoo.

Long time since they had any Gems.

They are all complaining about the collectors in Mauritius, but nothing they can do about it.

Interruptus is becoming more and more available and the price is going down accordingly.

I finally dropped the C.nahackye, I asked even in the Interzoo, and nobody ever seen it besides books and web.
Multicolor, here I come : )

This one's being sold to a guy with a much lager tank.
