RAREst fish in your sps tank

all those frags i got from you are doing real well BTW....

I am keeping an eye on what Frank is doing, we have been sending emails back and forth. He is a nice guy!

I would love a conspic, but cant seem to find any around, so Sedar is hooking me up with a nice Blueline and i am thinking about getting a goldflake or a pair of regals, heck i am even considering getting a Chrysurus, too many opitions to choose from, haha.... if you have a personal opinion shoot me a PM or something...would love to hear what you think! ;)

also i picked up a Mitratus Butterfly from Sedar also, pretty neat little fish...

I see your tank is coming along nicely... you should shoot me a PM/email or give me a call some time... it's always nice to chat with an experienced reefkeeper.

Actually i am not sure who you spoke with, but from all the research i have done on the Joculator they are pretty bullet proof. Scott Michael says they are the easiest of all the angels in the Centropyge genus....

These guys are very easy, if you are serious about getting one, talk to Sedar @ phishybusiness. He just got a couple in. That's where i got mine... It ate after 10 mintues out of the bag....

Serisously an easy fish.... They just have a small collection area, that's why the price is so high....

I can give you the exact quote from Scott Michael if you would like, right out of his angel + butterfly book....

There is not that much info out there on these guys, but Vili Shark (member here on RC) i think says this in one of his posts.. here's the thread...

I've always known that Nick is an excellent aquarist for his age after he ordered frags from me and we started talking... but that trait and cashola are two different things! It's great to have both! Too many people dump too much money into the hobby with nothing to show for it!

You much be confused on the C. joculator, as it's not a deep water angel and is tough as nails! You may be thinking of Paracentropyge boylei or C. narcosis... What makes joculators so expensive is their remoteness and the fact that there has only ever been one licensced collector, being really the only species collected for export from the Cocos-Keeling Islands in the Indian Ocean... they are collected at standard scuba depths and while found at Christmas Island also (Indian Ocean Christmas Island... not the Pacific one) they're not collected there as far as I know...
 
I'll be in touch Nick (we were responding at the same time it looks like)... you may want to hold up on the chrysurus for the reef... I've yanked my pair after they were picking a bit too much... More motivation to get the fish only going!
 
Haha too funny, I am really considering getting a goldflake we will see what i decide to do, haha!

I am excited to get the blueline. I remeber when you had one, very nice fish... Might even try for a pair of bluelines if Sedar can manage to pull it off, it would make for a nice display... I don't think I have ever seen a pair of bluelines. I heard of them spawning in public aquariums before, we will see...

I am also excited to see what Frank comes out with, he's a real nice guy. I wish i could go to his place "facility" and see his setup in person.

i would love to get a fish only going also, just dont have the time right now with Pre-Med and all...

Maximus I would if I could, but he specifically asked me not to... perhaps I'd consider it if you gave me your pair of interuptus...:D

Suffice it to say that it's unbelievable and super exciting... and as a rare fish nut since I was little this guy is a God to me... I met with Charles Delbeek at the Waikiki Aquarium for a behind the scenes on the same day which was a trip, and after Hawaii I went to Micronesia for a couple weeks (for work but of course did lots of diving)... but it was the meeting with Frank that still has me grinning from ear to ear and was the highlight of the year... even after having MACNA hosted locally by our club here... what he's doing I thought only my kids or grandkids would see in this hobby... :) To some they're just fish but to some of us (we know who we are) they're a life passion...

It's not "a secret"... :D I don't know exactly when he'll update his site but the point is he has things in development now and if you look at how many species he's already bred successfully you could imagine the type of things he's got cooking...

If only I could seine wild plankton here in Northern Virginia...:D
 
One of my favorite fish I own is my blue face angel. Just a beauty. But would like to get a regal for my new tank.

RCT Hawaii ... exclusively breeding rare angelfish now in captivity... A quote from their website is... "RCTââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s immediate, short-term objective is to increase the number of rare, captive-bred angelfish species to the marine aquarium hobby." I mentioned how Frank has things cooking and Maximus had to go prying:D ... Suffice it to say his objective is going well... 'nuff said!;)

Now let's see more rare fish!
 
Hey John, a little off topic, but have you been able to scrounge up some pics on the new tank? Saw a sneak peek of it in the pic of you and Sanjay.. Would love to see more and hear more about it
 
There's a few on the previous page and some more in my gallery taken before a minor meltdown where I lost some colonies while away on business in January...:o ... Travelling sucks for our tanks... but on the bright side I now have some real estate!
 
Tell me about it... had the inlaws feeding the fish while on vacation and I would snatch the phone from the wife when they would call us and quiz them on the tank. They now know what "top off" and "collection cup" and "ORP" mean to me. nothing to do with clothing, charity or Mork's home planet :)..

would love to see you equipment room/list for the 180..
 
Tell me about it....my 120 SPS is in my classroom! Besides summer vacation issues, I live an hour away!!!
 
One fish I have acquired, no pics yet, need a new camera, is a male mystery wrasse from Vanuatu (3.5") the mask is just amazing. It's model citizen in the tank. Leaves the Bimac hog, Blue streak cleaner wrasse ( 2.5yrs young in the reef) pseudo. elongatus and plectranthias inermis alone. It just peacefully cruises the rock work.
 
Lieutenant tang, I've only seen one other person on RC who had one. :)
