blstravler,

that is a nice "golden fairy wrasse" , you are brave to have that butterfly due to its reputation as a hard to keep and coral eater.
The Rhinopias is a beautiful speciman.
your anthias is Pseudanthias hypselosoma, which are not seen too often,

Thanks bryan

You must have miss read my post. The Butterfly and the Anthias are at my LFS. They are each in one of their 2 1800 gallon display tanks. It might only be a "golden fair wrasse" to you, but I think it's a great fish, just my opinion.

This is the reef tank at my LFS with all of the Anthias....

They have a Declevis butterfly for sale on justrarefish.com for $200. Liveaquaria has one for $300. A couple of the Japanese tanks posted above are keeping this fish.

"golden fairy wrasse" is the new term for rhomboids. For some reason the pyleis are being marketed as rhomboids now (which doesn't make sense but oh well. lol) It is a nice juvi male :)

Nice fish, how cold do you keep you tank seeing they need a cooler tank to survive? I have always liked box fish, but the power bill to keep my tank cold enough for them would kill me.

Really 76* will work? How long have you had them?

I have always heard that they just slowly parish in warmer temps, but if you have had these for a longer time, then maybe this is not the case?

When you say feed a lot more, what do you mean? 2-3 times a day or more?

How agressive are they to your other fish?

Thanks,

Nick

The Tinkers are the white and black ones, the wrought iron is the sliver/metalic one.

Nick

Thanks Nick.

I haven't heard of anyone keeping them longer that six months in tropical temps (yes 76 is still considered 'tropical'). John, I picked one up a few years back for Robz and I think he only was able to keep it a couple months even though it was eating everything. (High temps = higher metabolism = need for more food) However, this of course isn't the healthiest way to do it and decreases the natural life span of the fish. Just like freshwater flowerhorns that people keep at 90 degrees so they can feed them more in hopes that they grow bigger/faster, yet they only live 4-5 years.

Hopefully, anti-honda, your fish stay strong and live long happy lives. Fingers crossed.

flame boxfish need mid 60 temperatures to thrive. even 70 is to warm for them. I talked to a collector of those and he said the waters where they are found in is 60-68 degrees. he said you will never find one in the warmer waters.

Unfortunately, they probably wont live out the year in warmer temperatures of 70+.

Shoot someone better tell my fish they should have died about 2 years ago then!

I think what it comes down to is people don't know how to keep fish in general. The same people who kill these box fish could probably kill a beta.

I had those fish since mid 04. Then sold them to a guy locally who still has them. Granted they are in a slightly colder tank but not much I think its around 70. Don't quote me on the temp I'm not 100% sure.
