the snake is a north american or a banded water snake harmless unless your a frog many people mistake them for copper heads but you don't find copper heads by water.
 
thanks chad.... i would think that looking in the mirror before you went to bed would scare u even more?

I would have to disagree with you. Not on the type of snake pictured because that I canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t tell. But misinformation about copperheads and where they can or can not be found. My son was bit by a copperhead while fishing off a dock bare foot. The snake bit him right between his toes. He had a 3 day hospital stay over it. Here is a little reading about copperheads.

Habitat and Habits
The copperhead will reside in a variety of areas including oak-hickory hillsides with rock crevices and slides, swamp borders, old slab piles from sawmill operations, and the abandoned foundations and wood structures of old buildings. They also show a preference for moist habitats.
 
Yup, copperheads exist by water. My best friends jack russell got nailed good by one last year on a gravel bar while we were out with the kids on the Meramec river. Vet said it was lucky it did not die.
