Recommendations for chiller pump please....

I would like to find out some options and experience of pumps to use for a Pacific Coast 1/2 HP inline chiller.

I'm looking for reliability, low cost to run, efficient, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Here is what is says on the site:

Water flow 750gph minimum/1500 gph maximum

15"L x 19.5"W x 15.5"H

10 degree cooling up to 450 gallons
30 degree cooling up to 240 gallons

BTU Capacity 6000 3/4" PVC in/out connections

60db Noise Rating

I thought mags run hot and draw lots of electricity?

I would like to stay away from them, I have had 4 out of 8 fail on us.....(continuous use, no stop start funny business when we use)

Something more reliable?

Can you plumb it in-line with your return pump?

Does it have to be submersible?

Submersible, look at the Eheims for reliablity. You will pay more than you would for a comparable flow rate Mag, but if it eases your mind even a little it is worth it.

FWIW - I have my 1/2 hp plumbed in-line with the frag (40 gallon) and refugium (20 gallon) tanks. I use a Mag 9.5 with a "T" to regulate about 200 gph to the fuge and the rest through the chiller to the frag tank. Both thr frag and 'fuge tanks drain back to the sump. I'll qualify this by stating my tank is in the basement and I have not needed to run the chiller so I cannot verify that I have enough flow through the chiller (it's a 240 gallon system). Maybe a Mag 12 would be better.

Thank you very much Hans, HERO, and DD.

I saw DJ over the weekend and got the Hyperflow from him. We kind of had to put it in this weekend.

My sumps are in the basement too, but the tank temp is still about 10 degrees more than room temp. I don't like to run the air until about 75 degrees in the house, or I like to keep the windows open. Either way tank temp was getting to be 84-85 already!

The tank w/T5's are only about 2 degrees warmer than room temp.

Doubledown:: I would very much like to plumb it w/the return pump, however I'm not sure how to do it myself so I just got it done the easiest and fastest way....in the sump.

I really don't like where the chiller is on the floor. Where do you keep yours? Do you worry about getting it wet and getting it fried?
