the growth pattern is similar to my bali tricolor I got from copps. I believe that was a tyree le but don't know the species. when happy it has dark green base, purple tips, green polyps.

A desalwii or A plana maybe
growth doesn't look all that plate like though.

Hm interesting. Also worth mentioning- polyps on new growth are white but oterwise red. And has a bright green growth ring where it is encrusting the rock

I am going with a Acropora nana that is growing on the thin side.
Plana or desalwii would have started to table by now.

yeah. i was thinking that.

this is fun :)

to OP: Keep us posted! It'll be interesting to see if it colors up even more.
(btw, I never thought it was a tyree le bali but meant the growth pattern was the same and that it might be the same species.)

Looks like the polyps are red. Red polyps, red tips, beige skin, with green base is what I see on my screen. Are these colors correct OP?

yes. all the polyps are a dark marroon color except on new growth they are white. the body of it is all red, some of it is more beige because most of the colony is shaded by other acros. the encrusting growth ring along the rock is a bright green though

looks like a valida
strawberry shortcake is a a. microlodes got a colony coming in next week

I have heard that too. I got one from Oculus a year ago, died in QT, and that matched a nasuta. Here is a microlodes.

+1000.

Also, I have noticed that traits like color and degree of polyp extension are rarely if ever used to ID acros as they vary SOOO much from tank to tank. It's all about the overall growth pattern, the branches, the corallites.

Take a look at the widely different variations you see of the red planet. Acropora anthocercis.

Oh yeah do get me started on how many people ID every red stick as ORAs Red Planet. :deadhorse1:
