Red algae ID (not cyano)

Tried a search but it wasn't working. I have a red/maroon "fuzz" algae growing in my fuge under 6500K pc lighting. Looks and feels just like carpet fuzz or dust bunnies. I can post a pic tonight. It grows in clumps stuck to the glass and sand. Nothing in the main tank yet, but since it has appeared I can't get my cheato to grow anymore. I used to have to prune it 2x a month- now it looks and feels dead. Any possibility this "fuzz" is releasing toxins to inhibit other algae growth? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it (manual removal has not worked)?
