I did my first treatment a couple of weeks ago. The pesky little boogers are gone and haven't seen a sign of them since. "Knock on wood". I lost most of my acro crabs and three of my peperment shrimp. Other than that, everything seem to be unaffected by the treatment. I did notice more brown algae growth on my glass these last couple of weeks, but it's getting better.

polyp extension are a lot better than before. Well they're back to normal. When I had the red bugs, my polyp extension was at its minimal. Now most of the corals are back in action and look happier and healthier.

Not too be picky but if it has been a couple of weeks you should have completed your second treatment by now.

Don't forget they have eggs/latvae/young that may not be affected by the Interceptor during treatment so you have to get them as well.

well I thought I was bug free after doing a double dose one week apart back in april. I over dosed and nailed all of the 20 or so acro crabs and all of my hermits and shrimps and pods etc. I actually left the second dose in without using any carbon for a good month. There were absolutely no adverse reactions in the tank - other than from the animals that were whacked -mentioned above.... only two doses......THEY'RE BAAAAAAACK!!
I'm not sure if it was the continued frag trading without using 'protection' (dipping) that brought them back or if I just didn't kill them all the first time. I have no acro crabs now but I have one hell of a lot of scarlet hermits that I don't really want to kill them. If I stick to the exact dose and follow the instructions, will my hermits survive??maybe?? please??

I wouldnt count on them all surviving as well.. I would say maybe a 1/4 of them would if that.. Be safe and remove them... Hell put a powerhead in a small tubberware bowl with some saltwater for 12hrs..

I'm curious, though- how can we be sure the meds are killing ALL of the bugs if it only kills MOST of the other animals it effects?

The bugs are more sensitive to it than most other crustaceans. The dosage and duration was developed around their reaction to the medication, not the other crustaceans in the tank. You cant be sure you killed them all, thats one of the reasons that more than one treatment is required.

Just dosed last night, did the water change and everything for the most part seems OK. A couple ?'s though an hour after doseing two of my encrusting monti's all sucked in polyps. (there fine today) and my GSP's still havent opened. Also how much pollution in the water is caused by the dead crabs on average. Thanks

Not sure why the corals closed up. I didnt have that experience with green star polyps or any montiporas. Perhaps they havent re-opened because of the stress from the waterchange???
The pollution probably wont be much of an issue for you. The water changes should offset any spike caused by dead crustaceans. A few people now have reported cyano outbreaks after treating. The reports aren't common, so there may not be any link between the medication and an algal bloom.

I think it should be noted that it is being reported that some bugs are surviving just one treatment. Apparently by just doing one or two teatments the bugs that live might be developing a resistance to Interceptor. This is obviously very similar to what can occour with bacteria and antibiotics. I think it should be the responsibility of everyone doing the treatment to perform the full treatment according to the directions so kindly figured out by Dustin. Otherwise we could unwittingly develop a strain that is Interceptor resistant.

After I treat my tank three times i had to up the dose by 25% to kill them all the last two treatments i hope we don't have this problem.
Still bug free :D

well y'all it's been over a month now and I've still only dosed once. No bugs what so ever (knock on wood). I'm skeptical to dose the second and third due to some new cleanup crew that I've recently added.

the only drawback I got from using the intrepid (and i'm not sure it's because of the intrepid) is that I now have an outbreak of hair algae. I always had a little hair algae here and there, but now it's taking over my tank. Now i have a new battle.

My current water conditions are all good except for a little sign of phosphate. I recently bought the Phosban reactor and the substrate at marine depot, hopefully it comes in today. I also bought two emerald crabs and 3 blue leg hermits yesterday. I have about 50 smails and 50 hermits.

I used the phosphate pads last week but it doesn't seem to help. Hopefully over time and water changes the hair algae will go away.

If anyone knows of what other things I could do i would appreciate it greatly.

80 gal SPS tank
40 gal sump
20 gal refugium ( only a couple of weeks old- not too much calerpra)

tons and tons of hair algae !!!!!!!!!!

I am also "on the fence" about treating. I am also worried about my newly purchased clean-up crew. I will never be able to get all my shrimp out of the tank, plus my acro crabs have so much character. I don't know what to do.

Could someone point me to the original Dosing schedule thread, I would like to read about it before dosing my 110 with a 40 sump.
Thank You
