Red bug treatment POLL

I guess those who have treated the red bugs sucessfully w/ Interceptor can chime in on this "hotly debated" thread on Marshreef.com:

since there's a budy of Eric Bornaman tried to dispute the results of the hundreds of hobbysts that were successful w/ the medication.. He think the results so far just come from a small group of people!!

haha. Be careful what you post over there!i treated for red bug about 2 months ago and now im still red bug free,but now i got red slime all over the bottom of my tank.its covering my zoos and rocks a little bit but mostly on the bottom.
do you have any suggestions.i got some red slime remover from TLR but am scared to put it in my tank,but i was also scared to put in the interceptor.

red slime remover will just put off the problem for a short time and then make it worse either vacume it out as it develops or use a phosphate remover.
i was personally lucky enough to never get infected but i treat every new coral in a solution about 50x stronger than recomended for 6 hour to make sure the little bugs are dead, unfortunatly same made it through my last treatment so i am doing more as we speak

I have been reading for the last few hrs. Interceptor Kills your shrimp, crabs, hermit crabs, and pods... So for those of us with large tanks and many crabs, shrimp etc... our levels will rise with the sudden die off...Ammonia spike and every other thing that comes with it. I don't think these bugs just appeared but they have probably been here, why haven't we had these problems years earlier? I am going to try the pipefish and gobies before I treat it and spend 10hrs breaking down my tank to pull out all my dead critters... I sure hope the pipefish work.... just my measely $.02

How bad is bad? I mean, where does one draw the line between an infestation requiring treatment and having a few corals with bugs?
I have them, but I don't see damaged corals, but I assume they'd be better without a parasite.
How do I know that it's time for definitive treatment, or should they all go as a rule of thumb?
And could a link be provided to a vendor?

Your corals will live with them. However with some species the growth is stunted and color is lost. You certainly don't have to get rid of them. I think in some cases people don't think the coral looks stressed with the bugs because its the only way they have ever seen the coral.
I guess you could compare them to fleas on a dog. The dog probably isnt going to die from the fleas however it would be a lot happier without them.

Great comparison. So true about seeing corals one way, or even better, but how will one know their potential with a parasite present...
However, if I thought I'd kill my dog, I wouldn't try.
I have been contemplating treatment for some time now.
This thread has resolved this issue... so where can this product be purched online?

You need a prescription to get it. You mentioned your dog, if you have a good relationship with your local vet they will probably sell it to you for use in your aquarium.
You need the large breed pills for 51-100lbs so if you have a 3lb Chihuahua thats never been screened for heartworm they may be a bit leary.
I think some people have been able to get it from a canadian source or a company in Australia. You can save the hassle of doing that by just visiting the vet.

So I noticed after getting some corals from a buddy that I have red bugs again. I'd rid myself of them with Interceptor months ago. This really sucks because I'm transfering all corals and fish to a new tank today and don't want to bring them with. I dosed a little over recommended this morning and will wait to transfer anything into the new tank until after the 6 hours. None of the water or rock will transfer as the new tank is already cycled and running. Question is if I will need to do the other 2 treatments in the new tank.
