Well I voted a while back as not treating yet... I wanted to follow up that I treated twice with Interceptor... I did not Accurately measure it out more like 1 pill does 300g half does 150g 1/4 does 75g I figured my system is approx 70g so I use a 1/4 of a pill ea dose.. I left it in the tank for approx an hour or 2 longer than the stated time as I went out to dinner and such.. I didnt loose my Cleaner shrimps on Either dose but they seemed to be affected by it... Its been almost a month since I treated and I have yet to see another bug... Unfortunetly I had a mishap with the tank and killed off a few nice pieces that were coloring back up shortly after the treatment... Anyways all is good now and everything still looks great...

Thanks again Dustin and all the ones brave enough to try the meds out before I did... I never had bugs until I shortly after the treatment came out.. I ended up getting them from an LFS in the area...

Thanks again,
James

OK, I've read all about the medication of these pests but I still can't find the thread that talks about their effects. What does the damage look like and what kind of corals (other than acro) do they effect?

Same here, are they bad for your system? These are actually red photo synthetic flat worms not "bugs" or "mites" right? What is the treatment protocol that people are following?

If this is for the red flatworms, it sounds much safer than the flatworm exit. What are the sideaffects to the system?

Does it make your sps loose color?

Thanks,

Todd

I voted 'I treated my tank with Interceptor at a different dosage, or less than 3 times and now appear to be bug free.'

I did 2 doses about a week apart. I used a slightly higher dose (1/2 pill for approx. 130 gal.) and after the first treatment, all red bugs that were on corals were gone.

Nothing looked any different during the treatment. Cleaner shrimp, cerith snails, turbo snails and stometella snails all did just fine. I did notice some pods floating in the water not long after the treatment started. Still tons of critters in the tank though.

Lugols?

Lugols?

I've read all the posts about interceptor, but did anyone try the Lugol's solution as a dip? I don't want to get into a debate over using interceptor, but I just don't feel comfortable using a dog medication on coral. Iodine has been used for a long time to kill parasites and I think it may be a less caustic treatment. Has anyone tried the prescribed 50 drops per gallon?

Yes many did but thas not work.

I had them bad. I treated twice but when the third treatment was due we started having storms pass through. We were loosing power regulerly and even with my generator, I didnt want the extra stress from the treatment and by the times the storms were finished with us it had been three weeks from the second treatment. I thought that it was to late to do the third treatment so I am standing by and watching close.
So far no bugs and people who I have traded with since have told me that they see no dead ones when they do a preventive treatment before adding my stuff to their tank. I do a preventive treatment on all new corals now and I wouldnt hesitate 30 seconds to treat again if I thought I saw some in my tank again. Several of us here locally have treated and no one I know has seen any bad effects to their SPS. THe improvement in color and growth is so dramatic that after seeing the effects I dont hesitate to recomend to friends who ask. Thanx Dustin for posting the cure. I am afraid that with out it I would have lost most of my nicer colonies eventually.

Several of us have tried dipping with iodine as well. Erics thread covered the dosage needed and it was effective but. The corals were much more stessed and there were some losses. It was odvious that the iodine was much more stressful than the interceptor. I have seen both and I choose the intercepter now. No question.
Happy reefing
Dave
