Red bug treatment POLL

I don't have that many Acros so am thinking about treating is in a separate tank, and will probably do 3 treatments. My question is how long will I need to keep my acros separate from the main tank until all of the red bugs in the main tank will die off due to lack of acros ?

I was at the DFW-MAS meeting yesterday and Steve Tyree swears by this stuff. I am happy to hear that all off you are being responsible about treating your ATD's (acropora transmitted diseases) Luckily, I have never had any of these little mites. I am glad that everyone is trying to irradicate them so if I ever get any frags off of you, you won't ship it to my tank. :eek1:

OK, I've been reading this thread for the past 3 weeks now. On my last frag trade, I seem to have acquired the stupid little buggers. They have not jumped ship to my larger colonies, since I placed all the frags at the bottom of the tank since I was acclimating them to the new lights anyway. The new frags have a crap load of red bugs on them I knew it was only a matter of time I would get them anyway. My original colonies have NO traces of the li'l critters YET. I might as well treat the whole tank.

First question:
The tank is only a 55 gallon, with about 60-70 lbs of LR and a 6 gallon sump....after reading a few posts and crunching numbers, 1/8 th of the large pill should be sufficient, right?

Second question:
I know about the acro crabs, pods and crustaceans. I may get a die off of these guys, which I can handle. I DO HAVE 8 CLAMS. Please someone tell me if they will have a 99.99% survival rate. On another note, will these pills kill pyramid snails as well (don't have any, just wondering)

Third question:
I have read that after treatment, some noticed an outbreak of green, brown algae or cyano's..........let's see some show of hands, type of outbreak, and what you did to rectify the situation.

Clams and pyramidellid snails are mollusks and are not harmed by treatment with the recommended dose. The treatment only kills arthropods and nematodes.

One of my SPS is encrusting part of the LR there is a large colony of Zoa's on there witch one will kill the other.

I'm starting to see a couple of redbugs on my sps. They were on a loripes frag and now on a staghorn.

Can I use interceptor for smaller dogs? My dog's vet won't prescribe interceptor 50-100lbs for me...

How did you find out the ratios for the 50-100lb pill?

The pill weighs very close to 1 gram and it contains 23mg of milbemycin.

Do the smaller pills not give the same information? I have never looked at them but I would imagine they would.

None of the pills say how much they weigh, they only list the weight of milbemycin oxime in them.

well, I finished dosing my tank for the second time (as per the instructions) in january and the bugs came back last month (march)
I will do a third dose- it will consist of FOUR shots, 2 weeks apart and they will each be double doses... I'll let you know...getting pretty discouraged..

Are you certain you got killed them all during the first treatment? Perhaps you underdosed just a bit?
