red bug treatment Question

OK.. I know this has probably been asked.. but I just cant bring myself to sort through the hundreds of pages on this to find my answer so I'll just ask..

I was unable to get the interceptor pills for 51-100lbs dogs and could only get the pills for 26-50lbs dogs..

Does anyone know what the dose is when using this size pills or have a link they could share? Does it stay the same? the pills are 11.5 mg of milbemycin oxime..


any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I think the large dog pills are 23mg. That covers 400 gallons...

yeah i know.. but the pills for medium size dogs weigh .46g and have 11.5mg of the med in it.. the large dog pills weigh around 1g and have 23mg of the med in it..

so since ethe pill is about half the size as the large does that mean that the dose stays the same? and that the pill just wont treat as many gallons?

i mean it would appear that the dose would be the same because the pill has half the amount of med and half the amount of volume.. i just wanna make sure, maybe see if anyone has used the smaller pills.... i don't wanna fry my tank and have to kick something.. ha

Interceptor is pretty safe. If you overdose no big deal. some people purposely overdose with no problems. If it is half the size it will treat half as much. Premo and I have done it with no problems(just a slight algae outbreak). Good luck.

ok awesome. i'm starting my treatment on sunday.. how do you feel about the waterchange amount? isn't the 25% 24 hours apart a little aggressive ?

Just a normal water change is sufficient. Just add fresh carbon.

The medium dog pill is like a half pill of the large dog pill. so, one of the medium dog pills will treat 200gallons. A large dog pill treats 400 gallons. Hope that helps..also, don't sweat doing a large water change. I have waited a week before doing a water change after treatment and no ill effects.
