Red Dots on Chaeto?

I've had a ball of Chaeto in my sump for 2 months now. It hasn't grown much. Actually I've got bits of it that find it's way back up to my display tank.

I had a bout of hair algae and cyano, but have since solved it with a maracyn dose and cleaning.

Now I look closely at the chaeto, and I noticed a lot of red dots along each strand. Some strands actually look like a green candy cane with those red dots on them.

Is my chaeto diseased?? The dogs dont come off, they're right inside the strand. TIA.

When I first bought my chaeto I had a cyano outbreak and had the same problem. Are the chaeto strands breaking in half at the red spots? Because that's what mine did.

Actually I never noticed. I dont recall seeing any red dots on the broken pieces inside the display tank though...

Wondering if I should pick off all the pieces from the ball with the red dots?

Did you add anything recently? They might be flatworms. Try and get a really good look at them and search around for pictures. If they are I'd add flatworm exit right away, following the directions. I allowed a flatworm problem to get out of hand and it made a lot more stressful on the livestaock when I did finally use flatworm exit.
