red goni, alveopora, or something else??

Alrighty, I give up, someone wanna take a stab at IDing this coral?

It is red, encrusting, and has very short tentacles.
I've heard rumors that its an astreopora, but after purusing Veron's it doesn't seem the same because astreopora appears to have bumps where the corallites are, whereas this coral has indentations where the tentacles are.

I have this one in red and I have another that is red with green centered tentacles.

Looks like a goni to me, but I'm untrained. How long have you had it? If it's not acclimated well yet, or unhappy from starvation or whatnot the polyps won't extend too far.

Not likely a goniopora. Those polyps have more than 24 tentacles.

Looks like 24 to each polyp here(not all are the same... some have shorter polyps, some longer, some bigger, some smaller, some like more intense light, and some less)... I have one that is very similar. Mine's a goniopora. BTW, very nice!!! I spot feed mine 3-4 times per week with a 1 liter bottle(you may need a 2 liter if your colony is larger) to cover will I shoot food(phyto, cyclo-peese, golden pearls, detritis) directly over the coral. Hope this helps.

I saw one come in a few weeks ago labeled as an encrusting goniopora.

The polyps don't get any longer than they are in the picture. I don't think its a true goniopora and if it is I would like to know the species. I find they are much hardier than your average goniopora.

It looks like Goniopora to me. Possibly G. somaliensis (?).
If its well cared for, it should look completely different in several months; thicker tissue, better extension, longer tentacles...........like what you would expect.

Do you have any pics of your other red w/green?

with out seeing the skeleton i would say Goniopora somaliensis. Possibly G. pamlensis
