mesocosm,

That isn't a kelp, it's a red algae of some sort but I'm not sure. Can you post some more up-close pictures? Try looking up Halymenia. Also, can you post some more pics of your tank? Is that an algae devoted system? I'm liking it!! :)

Kevin

i don't think it's Halymenia but i do agree it's an algae. do you have a closer pic?

very nice macros BTW. you should post up a thread on that tank. ;)

Greetings All !

"That isn't a kelp..."

Yeah Kevin, I knew that ... honest ...

... still trying to overcome the embarassment/stupidity of suggesting that a Rhodophyte could be a "kelp" (... Kelp is by definition a member of order Laminariales ... in other words all true "kelps" are Phaeophytes (Brown Algae) ... I'm losing my mind ... been reading importer/wholesaler invoice mis-identifications WAY too long - the specimen was invoiced as "Red Kelp on Rock", go figure ... must start to think before hitting "Submit Reply" button ...) ...

The pics are from one of our resale tanks. I thought the details of the red guy would turn out better - he sold within 2 hours of being placed in the tank ... definitely should have gotten better closeup thallus and attachment pics ... next time.

MarLooney,

"very nice macros BTW."

Many Thanks! They are, aren't they? They're all from an obscure private collector/importer that I've recently discovered. I've given up on the 104th Street wholesalers ... they just don't have the quality I'm looking for.

wow... stoopid me. i didn't even notice you were in SoCal. where are you guys located? 104th has good quality but they suck fat balls when it comes to macro.

Greetings All !

MarLooney,

"104th has good quality but ..."

I agree ... check out the "liitle red house" / my homepage link for store propaganda. We're in Sherman Oaks.
