Red Mangrove tree roots everywhere

Just got one in.

It has a ton of roots everywhere. Do I have to cover them in sand because it seems to be impossible to do.

I have them covered some??

any advice

They seem to be fine in and out of sand, either way it should be fine. They do prefer rooting in substrate though.
Why is this in the non photosynthetic forum?
