Red Sea 500g air drier problems???

I recently bought the 500g Red Sea Drier for Ozone and it worked great for about 2 days and then the unit kept on popping open at the end with the o-ring. I tried trouble shooting the problem. I attached the Coaralife Luft pump only to the drier and adjusted the knob to 3 and it keeps on popping open at 2 it started to open, beads everywhere, by the way they bounce pretty well.... I bought 2-500g air driers and hooked up the other one and it did the same thing. Yes, I took off the white caps at each end. seems like there is a design flaw. It seems as though the o-rings dont have enough resistance to hold a small amount of pressure. It should be screws on.

Has anyone had the same issue? What was the solution?

By the way! Ozone is great, it cleared up the tank in 2 days.. Never seen water so clear. I dont smell any ozone, even at the source.. Had a few people over to get second and third noses into the loop. ORP at 350 15mg/hour

Be careful you don't get the water too clear too fast or you can actually shock/burn your corals with too much light!

Thanks xtrstangx,

My Orp reading was at Orp 311 when I started and increased it about 5-10 each day. I had the drier problems for a couple of days but, have brought Orp levels from 311 to 350 in about 6 days. I hope this was slow enough??

Anyway, I still have the problem with the drier cap coming off. I attached some duck tape, but dont know if this will last.

Does anyone else have this proble, with a solution, or is there a better air drier than the Red Sea?

I just got off the phone with Red Sea and the lady on the phone was very pleasant....(here hand were tied) She has had many complaints about the units. She did say Red Sea 500g air drier caps do pop off on most of there units, it has a design flaw, and there not fixing the problem. RS said to put duck tape or a rubber band around the the unit. That means everytime I want to dry the beads I have to get the tape off. Plus, I have not seen a rubberband that is 12" long.

Thats unacceptable, I just spent $50.00 on a unti that does not work.

I am fed up with Red Sea, this is not the first time I had to deal with them on one of there products.

Can someone recommend a different drier?

I took a drill bit which was just a tad smaller than the hole on the end and drilled out each side. No problems since. Shouldnt have to be this way but I guess you get what you pay for. :(

FWIW, I've seen some homemade ones here on RC. They seem to work pretty good.
