So my mom just got me a new camera and I've been playing around with it wherever I go and of whatever I can use as a subject. I used a 70-300mm lens on the macro setting much of the time. Its a bulkier camera than most of the cannon or nikons but it has some cool features and weatherproofing that I find pretty awesome. Hope you enjoy it.

awesome pics. I too have a k10d, and the pentax doesnt get enough love here. I just got the pentax 100mm macro lens, Ill have some pics up in the near future...

Cool! you are the first person that i know who has one. I've been told that there is some but not too much variance in the SLRS for nikon cannon and pentax. I was told that Pentax simply puts less money in to advertising and more into the development of their products.

Thanks crazed puffer and everyone for your comments. Taking photos with digital cameras/ disposable/ underwater cameras has always been a fascination of mine. Some times I wonder how is it that we can capture something in such a unique way that we are shown a different dimension of their existence. I took these photos pretty much whenever I felt an urge to capture a particular look.

Thanks for posting your photos mcliffy2! We represent the few Pentax users out there! Your tank is beautiful! I particularly enjoy looking at your coral photos. I too find it difficult to take photos through glass. Partucularly at an angle or through very very thick glass such as in public aquariums. I guess its the way that the light bends> leading to a fuzzy image. you might be able to try taking an extra large PVC tube and submerging it part way in the the surface of the tank and shooting photos through it to reduce the shimmering surface reflection . Great photos!

Oh sorry I almost forgot to answer your question ReefRockerlive. My mom purchased it at a ritz camera store for i believe 900 or so. It came with the standard 30-55mm wide angle lens and then also a free 70-300mm quantaray telephoto/macro lens > which I LOVE. The price included some polarizing filters. What I particularly like aobut the pentax is that it has image stabilization or shake reduction built into the camera, where as Cannon and I think NIkon have the feature built into the lenses. This means that Pentax lenses tend to be cheaper bc the property is incorporated into the camera already. I also like the ease of preserving sharpness in an image. There is a button on the side called RAW which saves your images in a much larger file size/ format that preserves the sharpness of the images. In addition the 10.1 megapixels means you can transform you beautiful photos into amazing posters without losing resolution! The other thing I realllllly like is that it is moderately weather proof and perfectly at home in rain/ at the beach/ or even snow! Of course dont submerge it though. Pentax makes a point and shoot camera called the OptioW30 which is a completely waterproof camera itself and doesnt need a case. I use it for taking picutres while snorkeling or in my tank if I cannot get close enough to a subject. Overall the Pentax k10d is a wonderful camera with some cool features. Its out of the box photo quality may seem ill at first but with a little practice and familiarizing yourself with the function your photos can be amazing. . P.S. Tripods will make images 10 times more clear! I hope that helps> happy Pentax customer

iceemn - Have you looked around for an underwater housing for the K10D? That is the one big drawback Ive found is that there is no standard ikelite or something like that for the pentax (which is weird because they make them for oly). Seems like you have to go custom, which Im guessing is 2k+....

I have a K100D.. the K10's 6mp baby brother..
I love it.. I've been shooting pentax since I can remember..
before the K100D I had a ZX-50 and an ME Super
I've been shooting with the stock lens.. A Tamron 100-300 and an old SMC 40-80 with 1:4 macro..

My Dad shoots a K10D with a couple sigma lenses..
He just picked up an old K1000 with an SMC-A 50mm F 1.7
That lens in really sharp and works well on the K10D and my K100D.. I'm trying to find an old SMC-A 100mm Macro to shoot the tank with.

He also picked up a Spotmatic with a 50mmF 1.4 but we don't have a screw mount adapter yet so we haven't tried it on the Digitals.

Don't forget.. the 14.6mp K20D is out soon

Because the Pentax k10d is a bit large I figured that I wouldn't be using it in underwater housings. Instead I opted for also having the Pentax optio w30 which is waterproof in itself to several feet >>> much cheaper than buying a housing. THe Pentax 20d looks reeeaaallllly c ooool. I can tell you guys know waaaay more about cameras then me. Hopefully I can be just as savy with terms and specs like you guys!
