Reef octopus 2000 hob issues

I have just installed a reef octopus classic 2000 hob skimmer. I have it up and running but have an issue with water coming out the overflow hole. Is this normal? Seems counter productive sending half the water from the inlet area back out. What am I missing?!?!

Skimmers can take a week or so to break in but the water must come out somewhere and thats how that one works..

I just purchased that same skimmer and having a hole near the collection cup made no sense to me.
I put a piece of tape in there, but after a day or so of usage, I had to lower the collection cup so now the hole is covered by it.
How does your skimmer works now?

I did like it, I have since changed my setup to a sump.

I realized after awhile that the hole is a overflow hole and after it broke in, it didn't have water pouring thru it.
