Reeflux 12K vs. EVC 14K

A quote from reefexotics "
ReefLux Metal Halide Bulbs

The Reeflux 10000K has a large spike at 452 nm which is typical of ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œ20000Kââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ lamps ;but has additional peaks at 534, 588 and 670 nm which has a ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œwhitening effectââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ on the overall appearance of the lamp.

This combination provides the blue and white spectrum needed for Coral growth, along with eye pleasing whiter light. Overall producing great coloration and improvement of our SPS corals."

I know you were asking about 12k's but I would like to share that I am very happy w/ my reeflux 10k's. I have been using them for 6 months now and I am very happy. I first bought them just because they were cheap. 3 months later they have become very popular locally and I am afraid that their price may go up. My sps love them.

want2reef ballast type will give a different burn on the bulbs. So if you are running an electronic ballast you will get a little different result

looking at that pic I think the white balance of the cam might be a bit off.

Ya, I'm running EVC electronic ballasts.
I'm trying to find a bulb that will give me the most par, without having to run actinics.

why are you cutting out actinics? You might have to run a higher kelven bulb like a 20k to not use the actinics

Maybe you can run one 20k and two 10ks if you can fit that in your canopy

that would be a reeflux 10k.

For the heat, Goto wal-mart and get a honeywell fan for 10 bucks. I have one above my canopy and my tank never goes above 80 F

I can't specifically give the comparison asked for, but can say that I love the color of my reeflux 250w 12k's. My orange monti cap loves them and I have a small pink birdsnest frag that seems to be doing well under them. I specifically wanted to run without supplementation myself and these have fit the bill. They started out pretty blue, but have since burned into a nice crisp white/blue look. I'm running them on ARO electronic ballasts.

I am thinking about going 12k reeflux when I change bulbs. How long are you going between bulb changes? I do mine every 6-7 months but I think I can go longer

First MH's for me, and I've only had them up and running since Jan 1, so haven't had to worry about changing yet. I'm hoping to get 10 - 12 mos out of them, but really don't know yet.
