my new refugium is wonderful and prosepering, but now i have a good amount of hair alges ect.. growing in it, is this ok ?

i now see some red algea on the substrate of my main tank, is this comming from my refugium ?

all perameters are perfect except my phos are .25 or so, i just bought some phosban (sp) and will put that in the sump tonight.

any info would be great

Phos remover is a good idea. I have a good bit of hair algae in my fuge too. It's not exactly macro, but you can get some of the same benefits. Consider a good macro algae to compete for nutrients in there. (I use Phoslock) Anyway, sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on things. Good Luck!

i also have a PBT that has become sick...does this have anything to do with the phosphates ?

cant figure it out

i would not think your tang getting sick would have to do with PO4, at least directly, however having less than pristine water quality conditions, (no offense) could easily contribute to the tangs problem. Also, I would add some macro to your refugium to grow, you dont want hair algae in there, as it may very well end up inside the display.
Macro algae grows fast and it easy to prune to help remove the nutrients from your system completely.

A lot of folks here are using Chaetomorpha sp. in their refugiums. Caulerpa prolifera is the most widely available, however. It can be extremely proflic under the right conditions, but it's very delicate. Just lay it on rocks and substrate and it should take off. If you try to plant it or tie it down, it will probably die.
