Refugium

Hello All,
I have a question pertaining to my refugium. I currently have a 55 show tank, with a 12 gallon eclispe as a refugium. On the front of my show tank, I have an aqua C remora protein skimmer, which works well. I have to do this due to space limitations, and the fact that I am sumpless. My question, should I move the protein skimmer to the refugium, to make the show tank more desirable? Would the main tank suffer from this move? I recently transitioned from a fluval 304 with standard ceramic media, carbon, and sponge, to replacing the media with live rock rubble. I utilize a carbon sock in the overflow box for chemical filtration. I feel the Berlin approach suits my sytem limitations best. Surprisingly, the tank and refugium have responded well to the transition, but I am still working diligently at lowering my nitrates, which seem to hang out between 30-40ppm. I listed my basic set-up below, I may be missing something, and suggestions would be very much welcomed.
Thanks...
