Relocating Basement Fish Room

I've been running a basement fish room for 18 months but now it needs to move to the other end of the basement. The display tank upstairs is 220G with Qty2 - 1" drain lines and a single 1" return pipe from the sump pumping back up.

The new sump will be about 100G and I just purchased the huge Hammerhead pump to increase the water circulation. The Hammerhead has a 2" system so I'm wondering where the best place to throttle it down to 1" and patch it into the existing piping is? There is no option to replace the current lines.

The water is being pumped vertically about 18 feet to get back to the display tank. I'm thinking of using 2" from the sump and pumping over 2" up into the roof of the basement. In the roof I would then patch it into the 1" line (about 50% of the head room)

Sorry for the poor terminology, I haven't been on here in a long time.

Thoughts, comments?

Following along. I also have a hammerhead pump still in the box to do the same thing on the same size tank! I have mine right under my tank with less then 12 ft of head on it but have not started on the project. Tagging along.

Your best bet is to call Chris from reeflo. I had issues with this as my 100 gallon sump/70 gallon ref is in the basement too. I wish I would have called him prior to plumbing as I bushed mine almost out of the pump and he advised almost the opposite. If you call him and give him your "exact" scenario, he will be able to give you the best advise for your pump. Very easy guy to talk to, and always a lot of help!

I haven't had a chance to call Chris at Reeflo yet but it's on my todo list for later today. From everything I have read it looks like the best strategy is to push 2" as far as possible before reducing it down to 1".
