Removing T. maxima

my clam is perpendicular to the top
of the water/light. i need to move it, but
it's abyssil fibres are attaching it to the
rock. how do i get it to release it's fibres?
doesn't cutting them hurt it?

If you are careful, and have an extremely sharp clean knife like an exacto razor, you can tilt the clam slightly to one side and cut the fibers very close to the rock. If you are careful it can be done.

Why move the clam though, it must be happy if it has attached well?
