i have 4 fish in a tub wiht maybe 15 gallons of water, and 2 of my good fish in a dirty 10 gallon, but i must think the coniditon must be better, the temp is about 72 in the tub, im putting in hot water to raise it up, the sand storm is still very cloudy, ive heard the fish will survive in this, ut im a little weary abot umy corals, or the fish suckin this sand up, i hope it clear within a day or two, otherwise ill haev to find new temp. homes

any suggestions on what to do, should i turn off my filters? my powerhead is off, but my 2 filters are runnin weiht spoinges to help suck stufff up

ya try it, or put a plastuc gabage bag on the sand then pour water 1 gallon at a time on it slowly, i wanted to do that, but dads sometimes think they know better, and dont

run the skimmer, keep the filters going. put as much live rock in there as possible. the more rock and "fish slime" the better. the slime weights the sand particles down and helps them settle quicker. rock just catches it for later to be blown around when you move stuff. See if someone has a canister filter you can borrow.

be sure to keep the temp holding areas with plenty of circulation, you dont want the water to lose oxygen.

where did you get southdown sand? It will take atleast 2-3 days for the water to begin to clear, so keep cleaning the sponges

anyone else with input help!, i have 2 small damsels in the tank, a powerhead going 10 snails 5 lueleg hermits and a serpent star, whose legs i can see comin out of he sand (hes near the glass)

Well you heard about me chaning out my crushed coral this week and well after two days its safe to say everything is living and doing only okay i wouldn't say great. I have minor clouding, i ran my skimmer 24/7 and pulled out a lot of nasty dust. The main thing im worried about is my anemone.

It took my tank about 12 hours before you could see to the back of the tank.

i kept my corals/fish in a tub over night everyone pulled through fine and looked great this morning. I put them in the tank as soon as i got up and i haven't seen very many promising signs although my montipora digita is open my toadstool is thinking about opening as well. My anemone like i said looks like he is in very poor condition. Im going to see how it plays out overnight. As for my fish they are doing fantastic. No heavy breathing lots of life great color. The hard thing to do was get my temp back up in the main tank because i had the heater in the display over night. i'm hoping thats why my anemone is a little "dazed" as i like to call it due to the shock of going from 82-78.

i did tests and my water is doing good. The only thing is my macro algae is covered in dust which i hope won't affect its growth much.

i have my 2 good fish in a 10 gallon wiht corals and my pc balanced on it, my 2 damsels in the 29 gall, my snails and star and crabs in the tank, my shrroms and feather duster in the tank, them in the tank only because they are all on live rock, and the more live rock in there, the better, the featherduster should be ok, he can just suck up, shrroms you cant kill anyway, and my normal 2 fish from the 10 gal in the 40 gallon bucket wiht meybe 15-20 gallons a powerhead and a NO light over it, putting in reaaally hot water i raised thetemp up to 78, might add one more overnight, to try to wam for thnight, then i will figures the rest out tomorrow, mybe send them to live at a friens hose for a lil while

As people have said, the dust storm isn't going to kill your fish or corals. However having them in an unstable environment (temp fluctuations and no biological filter ) could kill them. IMO put them back in the tank.

thanks AGU i did what you said wihttle rocks it worked until my dad decides to stop pouring in water slowly, and pour in a 5 gal buckat all at once while i was mixing up more water

the fish in the tub are going back in the tank right now, as long as i can catch them

you should try one of those sediment filters for well systems with the tight wound yarn material i think you can slip it in a section of a ro canister i think HD sells the canister with the big inlet and outlet so you can plumb it to a large power head or something .im going to be adding southdown to my bed to build it up soon but im going to rinse the hell out of it first.

its doing good, i took a good sized tubberware container, put lots of holes in it, and put the clarkii and the pseudo in it and its floating around thre tank, this is becasue i dont want these fish i nthe show tank, they reside i nthe 10 gallon(qt) tank they were in it, then they chewdup my pygmy agel pretty good so i put then there, the 10 gallon currently has 2 fish fro mthe main tank, and my corals (yellow polyps and xenia) shrooms are in the tank

its slowly clearing up, i saw my lemon damsel earlir inthe corner, he want inhaling hard or gubbing so im guessing hes doing tgood, more pics and posts tomorrow

YES i saw both my fish swimming around, one was playing in the sand it looked liek haha

B:Addbioligical filtration, crushed coral is more of a detrius trap
C:my rocks are kinda round on botom, and dont balance great in the crushed coral
D: im going to add more lighting, and brains sit on sand

Mr Floyd,
i would recoomend the Hagen Quik Filter for Aquaclears. If you don't use aquaclear powerheads you can retro it to most pumps with liberal amounts of super glue. the Quikfilter is a micron filter and is just about the only thing that will clear up the milkyness. you will porbably have to rinse it out several times the first day. Once it is clear stop using the floss. and when you are done yo get 3 filter screens you can glue onto intakes if needed.
I would also recommend sprinkling some slightly larger sized sand on top of your sand bed. This will keep the sand from stirring up as much and allow some very fine sand to settle "in the cracks". I have used a tiny amount of crushed coral for this with great affect.
