Return siphon

the tube from my return pump has to stay very close to the top of the water level of the tank in the event that my pump fails and water begins to siphon back into the overflow.

since its so high to the top of the water level there seems to be a lot of air bubbles in the water
also water kinda splashes onto the lights in the canopy

Im no professional, but i dont think thats a good thing...

I'd like to aim the return hose lower in the tank, but then if the pump fails, it would siphon way too much water out overflowing the sump

is there some kind of valve i can put onto the return hose so that it dosent turn into a siphon when the pump shuts off?
(a bigger sump is out of the question)

thanks!
