Returning to reefkeeping

Hi all,

Some may remember I converted my last reef tank, the plywood 360g, to freshwater maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Since then I haven't been on the forums much. I sold every last bit of reefkeeping gear, assuming I was pretty much done with the hobby.

I demolished that tank a little more than a year ago and was tankless for a while.

Well, I couldn't stay away after all, so over the last week or two I've started to piece together a new nano.

Glad to see most of the same old crew active here, looking forward to running in to some of you all at the usual LFSs. Just wanted to drop in and say hi while I was checking out what's going on locally.

You're nuts. I had a 2 hour wrestling match with my skimmer last night at the end of a "quick water change". I strung together a raging stream of expletives and was POURING with sweat to the degree that my wife and children and 2 dogs were holed up in our bedroom. Afraid of the Ogre on the first floor.

We've all had it happen. We all know it can happen. I wanted to take a sledge to my brand new tank.

Welcome back. I don't have much, but let me know if you need anything Nate.

Ralphie Parker: F dash dash dash

[narrating] Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master.

In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenity that, as far as we know, is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan

Whoa, Nate. What are you feeding Seamus?

I'm not gonna pretend that I will follow that other thread because I probably see you more than I post here, but you're gonna have a lot of fun fitting all of that equipment into that sump. C'mon over when you're ready for corals.

Ugh , welcome back. My 1 year old cube had a seam fail while driving home from Michigan. Brand new puppy . My wife was extra thrilled .

I'll do occasional updates here for all you locals.

Plumbing is done, it's starting to look more like a tank and less like a pile of equipment. I need to rig the lighting and finish the water storage/mixing/topoff setup and then it's done.

I'm starting to really get the appeal of Nanos. It's as complex as I want in terms of equipment but still pretty self contained and manageable. It's going to be nice to have a 200 gallon box of salt last me several years instead of 3 months.

Wow, you guys weren't kidding. The forum seems nearly dead compared to the good old days. Is it really true that there's a lot of local activity on facebook?

Are there any good old fashioned frag swaps any more?
